Overview


We are seeking a Gastroenterologist to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System in Little Rock, Arkansas. The Gastroenterologist in this position will be responsible for covering a range of Gastroenterology services as would be provided in a state-of-the-art civilian medical treatment facility and the standard of care shall be of a quality, meeting or exceeding currently recognized national standards.

Responsibilities




  • Provide excellent on-site care for military Veterans.

  • Study, diagnose, and treat illnesses, injuries, and other ailments.

  • Provide preventative care, detect developing health problems, and give advice to help patients develop healthy habits.



Patient Care 95%:


  • Provide clinical Gastroenterology services including procedures, consultations, and other related Gastroenterology procedures.

  • Provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all Gastroenterology clinical or surgical patients.

  • Communicating test results to providers and patients.



Administrative 5%:


  • Attend staff meetings as required by the VA.

  • Complete the appropriate QM/PI documentation pertaining to all procedures, complications, and outcome of examinations.

  • Comply with Patient Safety Compliance and Reporting.




Qualifications




  • Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent degree from a school in the United States or Canada.

  • Minimum of 2 years of specialized experience and training required.

  • Must have a current active, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.

  • Board Certified/Board Eligible Gastroenterologist by the American Board of Internal Medicine is required.

  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency is required.

  • Knowledge of medical ethics, human anatomy, pharmacology, and other specialties.

  • Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.
