To deliver Mars Petcare growth and sustainability targets, we need to create a strong, long-term alternative materials pipeline. Pet Nutrition has a centralized Material Science team, accountable for aligning the strategy of the Alternative Material Pipeline.

The Global Ingredient Development Scientist will be responsible for leading small projects or sub-projects to support the Material Science program by exploring new raw materials and developing products and recipes to meet agreed project critical success factors. The jobholder will work together with a lead region and counterparts in the Material Science team to support new product explorations and implementations and to prepare knowledge transfer documentation to support the roll out to follower regions.

What are we looking for?
Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Food Science and Technology, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree (or equivalent)


• Approximately 10-20% Travel

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Degree in Food Science and Technology, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree (or equivalent)


• Advanced knowledge in food chemistry withfocus on raw materials


• A good understanding of dog and cat manufacturing or similar industry (ie meat industry processing)


• Physico-chemistry expertise (rheology, microscopy, tribology, calorimetry, gels & thickeners)


• Understanding of statistics including design of experiments

What will be your key responsibilities?

• Accountable for delivering operational objectives of small projects or parts of innovation projects with a focus on raw material functionalities & capabilities (e.g. nutrition) and physical chemistry (texture, rheology, stabilization etc.)


• Responsible for management of their activities from inception to handover to a region.


• Accountable for organization and planning of product test runs in the pilot plant and innovation kitchen as required, creation of test plans for product performance assessment (nutrition, palatability, and digestibility)


• Accountable for applying standard and novel physical measurement methods to measure product/process characteristics as necessary.


• Accountable for collecting and providing all required data on process parameters, physical product characteristics and analytical values. Analyze the above data & write reports in English as necessary.


• Responsible for ensuring products meet product performance attributes (nutrition, palatability, digestibility, and cost) in line with global product performance targets.


• Responsible for proactively managing Intellectual Property risks and opportunities.


• Responsible for providing high quality formal and informal communication on progress of projects.


• Responsible for effectively managing project risks to inform and influence project team.


• Responsible for keeping up to date on technical innovation, business trends, global competitors, and Mars product portfolios for priority brands.
