Job Description:

REPORTS TO: Planning Manager



SUPERVISES: Shop Planners



DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:





  • Responsible for providing day-to-day direction and supervision of Shop Planners located both in the MMF and Final Assembly areas.

  • Provides liaison between Planning/Scheduling and Production/Project Management.

  • Responsible for ensuring Build Strategy is in alignment with Engineering Product, Plan and Schedule.

  • Review completed work packages for remaining material, determine if the work scope finished, and determine the need for the balance of material.

  • Review work packages that remain open when a module has finished its stage of construction to determine if the work should have finished or correct the plan.

  • Responsible for ensuring Production/Project Management feedback through the VCD and that all feedback is dispositioned.

  • Works closely with production supervisory personnel to coordinate daily activities and the flow of interim products and materials in a dynamic environment to ensure smooth and efficient construction in accordance with detailed plans and schedules.

  • Monitors manning requirements to meet required workload.

  • Provides internal department training for shop planners.

  • Complies with Austal's employee handbook general guidelines, company procedures and policies.




QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:



  • Comprehensive knowledge in large ship construction and trade work scope required.

  • Minimum seven (7) years' ship building experience to include at least six (6) years' shipbuilding planning experience required.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Must be able to organize and run meetings with multi departmental personal.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Power Point and Word.

  • Fundamental knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS)

  • Fundamental ability with Primavera (able to open project, create layouts, filter and print schedule info)

  • Experience with Government contracts preferred.

  • Experience with AutoCad, ShipConstructor, and Navisworks preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to humid conditions, strong smells, bright flashing lights, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, outside weather conditions, extreme heat and cold conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed, while in production areas, to fumes and/or airborne particles at or below the PEL, toxic or caustic chemicals. While the noise level in the normal office work environment is moderate, it can be very loud in the production areas (+90 dB).
