We have an outstanding leadership opportunity for a US West Region Business Group Leader - Natural Resources and Impact Assessment.


As the Business Group Leader (BGL) for the Natural Resources and Impact Assessment (NRIA) business, you will work closely with the Region Operations Manager and Environment Market Leadership and Relationship Managers. The BGL is accountable to the Region Leadership team for revenue and growth targets, team utilization, Quality, staff development, retention, project performance of the Business Group, for maintaining and developing client relationships and developing a high performing team. As the BGL, you will also lead business development to help develop and grow GHD's presence and market share in the delivery of scientific services across the US West.

Our ecologists, environmental scientists and technical professionals deliver a range of innovative services associated with the natural and aquatic environments. Our solutions create lasting community benefit including safer drinking water, improved natural resource management and the protection of ecosystems for biodiversity and community wellbeing. Services include: freshwater and marine ecology, marine resource management, water planning and management, wetland and waterway restoration, ecosystem restoration and rehabilitation, arborist assessments, biodiversity offset and compensation strategies, construction oversight, offshore marine baseline surveys, flora and fauna impact assessments, natural resource damage assessment, ecological risk assessment and compliance monitoring. We also cover environmental, wildfire, forestry and threatened or endangered species management, monitoring and assessment. As BGL, you will provide leadership for pursuits of projects for the public and private sectors. You will also provide technical leadership for the delivery of projects for our clients throughout the West. This position will work from our California, Washington, or Arizona offices.



Specific responsibilities in this role will include:



Strategy and Business Planning

  • Strategic business planning and budgeting for the NRIA practice
  • Participate in the development and execution of the growth strategy for the US West Environmental Market
  • Develop and manage annual tactical plans aligned with the overall strategic plan for the region/country

Winning Work

  • Build and foster effective relationships with key clients
  • Collaborate with Regional Environment Market Lead and Sector Lead(s) to implement appropriate business development, sales and marketing strategies for the NRIA practice across the West Region of the U.S.
  • Participate in visibility activities including conferences
  • Seamlessly collaborate with leadership and resources across GHD to bring solutions to local clients
  • Approval of job/scope of work packages, budgets, and progress in accordance with GHD Limits of Authority

Operations

  • Accountable for the operational performance of US West NRIA Business Group including chargeable effort, sell rate and variances
  • Accountable for project financial performance for all projects owned by the US West NRIA Business Group including variances, as-sold and as-delivered net labor multiplier
  • Work closely with Region Market Leaders and other BGLs to forecast market and work type trends and needs, to plan for re-training, recruitment, or technology gaps
  • Accountable for resource forecasting and monitoring of the NRIA Business Group
  • Liaising with Talent Acquisition and manage the recruitment process and pipeline
  • Responsible for ensuring the Limits of Authority are being adhered within the BG - including identifying, monitoring, managing and mitigating risks within the NRIA BG

Project Delivery:

  • Leading best practice project delivery, making key technical contributions to projects and coordinating the work of team members to deliver creative solutions
  • Embracing established project management best practices and advocate for the adoption of standard methodologies within your sphere of influence at GHD
  • Directing the project teams, administering contractual aspects of the project, and have a client facing role
  • Working with project directors, project managers, project teams, and BGLs in other BG's to improve job delivery skills within Business Group
  • Directing pricing, scoping and winning strategies for amendments and follow-on work
  • Accountable for resource management including allocation of people to support projects within the BG
  • Ensure adherence to GHD's QA/QC plans including meeting established Quality KPIs

People:

  • Purpose Led communications to the Business Group to inspire the team and enhance Employee Experience (EX)
  • Develop and mentor senior leaders within the Business Group
  • Collaborate and mentor with our Young Professionals to provide experience and exposure to a wide variety of projects
  • Accountable for implementing quarterly check-ins in the Business Group including conducting the check-ins for direct reports
  • Collaborate with Market Leaders, Service Line Leaders and Project Managers within and outside the Region on work sharing and business development
  • Embrace the "One GHD" philosophy by collaborating with teams worldwide to share capabilities and project opportunities
  • Being accountable for the people management of the group including leading, inspiring and mentoring your team
  • Review and normalize performance reviews and salary adjustments for the BG

KPIs

  • Develop and own business tactical plans for each fiscal year, aligned with the overall North Americas strategy developed by Environment Market Leaders
  • Lead Business Group's Winning Work and Project Delivery in accordance with GHD's Limits of Authority and in coordination with Operations Manager and Project Management Office
    • Guide business group to maintain positive Client Experience (CX) via client surveys
    • Maintain business group retention to minimum 92% (reviewed quarterly)
    • Deliver on budgeted billable hours for Business Group including managing BG utilization to minimum 75% (reviewed monthly)
    • Support Environmental Market Leaders and Environmental Relationship Managers to achieve 15% year-over-year revenue growth.
    • Manage project portfolio to limit variances to maximum of -1% of total labor revenues.
    • Manage personal Utilization to minimum 50% (reviewed quarterly)


Skills, Experience and Qualification:

  • Professional registration such as CES, or EIA preferred
  • More than 10 years of experience delivering natural resources and/or impact assessment projects required.
  • More than 5 years of experience mentoring junior and senior scientists in a professional services firm required.
  • Experience with managing and delivering CEQA and/or NEPA projects preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with proven ability to develop, mentor and lead professional technical staff
  • Strong business development, capture planning, and marketing skills
  • Exceptional track record in client development and project execution for NRIA projects
  • Strong relationship leadership skills and a real passion for developing people within GHD
  • Flexible and able to meet challenging deadlines
  • A self-starter with sound judgment and decisiveness
  • A standout colleague with a strong client focus
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written), with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization in a collaborative fashion
  • Proven supervisory experience in mentoring junior and senior scientists and technologists
  • Experience and/or formal training with project management best practices

Salary Range: $149,000-$223,500 based on location and experience
