JOB SUMMARY
The admissions counselor-advisor will be responsible for working with various student populations. This role comprises conducting activities related to outreach, recruitment, admissions activities, conducting information sessions and outreach off site and virtually, managing inquiries, meeting with students to facilitate class registration for new and prospective students. Responsibilities include outreach, registration, post-test advising, advising/course eligibility, course registration, communications, new student information and student support activities including follow-up on academic alerts. This
position reports to the Coordinator of Enrollment Development in the Admissions Office.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Conducts activities related to outreach and recruitment of credit students.
- Prepares and conducts admissions sessions/presentations to help market and facilitate
admissions processes for the College.
- May be responsible for one or more of the following depending on the annual cycle of activities:
a. Facilitates financial aid and scholarship presentations, on-and off-site.
b. Designs and facilitates new and effective events in virtual and face-to-face environments.
c. Facilitates registration process for special populations as needed.
d. Participates in advisory boards as needed.
- Advises dually enrolled students with semester course planning and scheduling in respect to their high school
schedule and students’ progress toward academic goals.
- Teaches new students how to use technology including student planning, Starfish, student email, and Canvas.
- Supports and teaches students how to register, track progress and finalize course enrollments in conjunction with their high school.
- Provides special support to students who receive academic alerts including goal setting, progress and strategies for success and course completion.
- Develops relationships with local high school counseling staff to effectively work with the high school population.
- Assist in the recruitment of prospective students, including participating in high school visitations, open houses, college/career nights, and other outreach activities for both current and prospective students.
- Provides support to students with personal issues and appropriate referral resources.
- Presents class presentations and information sessions to facilitate academic planning, registration, and Onboarding for students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

- Bachelor’s degree.
- One or more years of experience advising high school students with course scheduling or some experience advising in a community college setting.
- Ability to use small office equipment and computers for data entry, word processing and/or accounting purposes.
- Must be positive, flexible, cooperative, and supportive.
- Ability to work flexible schedule, including evening hours.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual in Spanish/English
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is normally sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Periodically, it requires standing for longer periods of time during presentations or fairs. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
- Hear/talk/communicate – Must be able to exchange information and communicate
- Visual Acuity - Ability to perceive or detect surroundings
- Mental acuity – Able to focus, concentrate, understand, and convey subject matter
- Repetitive motion (i.e., keyboarding)
- Stand/sit/walk - Able to move or traverse from one area to another
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
College campus, area high schools and related offsite locations. Direct contact with diverse students, staff, faculty and the general public in classrooms, common areas, offices, and campus environments. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office, meeting, and training rooms.
Use of safe workplace practices with office equipment; computers for data entry and word processing with some highly technical applications and new technology systems; avoidance of trips and falls; observance of fire and building safety regulations and College policies; and observance of traffic laws if/when driving a College vehicle.
