Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Dry Dock Operations Manager oversees the planning, execution, and completion of ship repair and maintenance projects within a dry dock facility. This role requires strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of maritime repair processes, and the ability to manage resources efficiently to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.     Project Management

·       Plan, coordinate, and supervise all dry dock operations, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.

·       Develop detailed project plans and timelines in collaboration with clients and internal teams.

·       Monitor project progress and adjust schedules as needed to meet deadlines.

2.     Operational Oversight

·       Oversee the docking and undocking of vessels, ensuring safe and efficient operations.

·       Manage and coordinate repair and maintenance activities, including hull cleaning, painting, mechanical repairs, and system upgrades.

·       Ensure all work is performed in compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and customer specifications.

3.     Resource Management

·       Supervise and coordinate the activities of the dry dock workforce, including skilled tradespeople, technicians, and support staff.

·       Manage the procurement and inventory of materials, tools, and equipment required for repair projects.

·       Maintain and monitor dry dock equipment and infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and safety.

4.     Quality Assurance

·       Implement and enforce quality control procedures to ensure all work meets high standards.

·       Conduct inspections and tests to verify the quality and functionality of completed repairs.

·       Address and resolve any quality issues promptly.

5.     Safety and Compliance

·       Develop and enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

·       Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions for all dry dock personnel.

·       Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.

6.     Client Relations

·       Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular updates on project status.

·       Address any client concerns or issues promptly and professionally.

·       Foster strong relationships with clients to ensure repeat business and customer satisfaction.

·       Continuous Improvement

·       Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.

·       Lead initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall operational effectiveness.

·       Stay updated with industry trends and technological advancements.

 

EDUCATION:  

·       Required: Bachelor’s degree in maritime studies, marine engineering, business administration, or a related field.

·       Preferred:

 

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of 5 years in maritime operations, with at least 2 years in a management role within a dry dock or shipyard.

• Extensive knowledge of ship repair processes, including mechanical, structural, and systems repairs.

 

SKILLS:

• Strong leadership and team management skills.

• Excellent organizational and project management abilities.

• Proficiency in using project management software and tools.

• Solid understanding of safety regulations and quality control standards.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

o   Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients, team members, and senior management.

o   Problem-Solving: Ability to quickly identify issues and implement effective solutions.

o   Attention to Detail: Ensuring precision in repair work and adherence to specifications.

o   Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing project demands and operational challenges.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

·       The performance of this position involves exposure to construction or industrial areas where the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hard hats and hearing protection is required.

·       The position is typically based in a dry dock facility, involving both office and outdoor environments.

·       Requires adherence to safety standards and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.
