Applies advanced analytical skills, business judgment, and expertise to create solutions to the most complex Pharmacy Clinical Consulting problems that have little or no organizational precedent. Designs highly complex systems and leads the largest Pharmacy Clinical Consulting projects and initiatives and is responsible for the clinical leadership of major account(s) or multiple business segments. Manages an assigned set of complex/sophisticated clients carrying a heightened strategic project management role. Serves clients as the primary contact for all clinical, formulary related initiatives, financial /rebate and clinical modeling, trend evaluation, clinical business plan development consultation and presentation, implementation and oversight, results evaluation, and follow-up related to the comprehensive management of clinical programs and services issues and initiatives regarding programs and up-sell. Promotes the organization's Pharmacy Clinical Consulting capabilities to clients, identifies sales opportunities to be forwarded to the account managers and achieves contract extensions or additional business within the account(s). Develops and disseminates enterprise tools, best practices and quality standards related to Pharmacy Clinical Consulting. Possesses industry-wide clinical authority and represents the organization externally. Responsible for identifying internal and external strategic issues and opportunities that could affect growth and profitability of the organization. Regularly engages in innovative and breakthrough thinking to develop new markets, technologies, or services which will have a long-term strategic impact. This role is not on a sales incentive compensation (IC) plan; however, account-specific measures are typically considered in other incentive programs.

The dual role of Account Executive (AE) / Clinical Account Executive (CAE) position is an exciting opportunity for a pharmacist who is looking to leverage their pharmacy and healthcare expertise to meet the Labor Division client’s strategic goals and drive improved clinical and financial outcomes for their membership. In this role the AE/CAE will use their deep understanding of the pharmacy/healthcare landscape and pipeline, as well as strong clinical, analytical, financial, and business skills to develop and present a comprehensive strategy aligning and supporting to the client’s strategic goals. The strategic plan should address critical business metrics such as member and client satisfaction, clinical support and clinical solution program adoption – with a goal to deliver lower healthcare costs and optimal clinical outcomes. This role requires the AE/CAE to think forward into the future as the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, be comfortable with a wide variety of data elements, have an ability to draw insights from that data while being member-centric and promoting an optimal patient experience. They must serve as the client’s gold-standard clinical resource and be knowledgeable of new clinical innovations that are occurring beyond medications, including digital health innovations and new healthcare delivery models. They are the client’s healthcare consultant and expert and are responsible for providing comprehensive management of nonclinical and clinical strategies, initiatives, and new solution adoption in order to meet the client’s and ESI’s common goals.

This position is a Hybrid preference with exceptions that may be made for Remote work if 50 miles outside of a Cigna location.

Essential Functions:


  • Develops client-specific strategic plans and makes appropriate recommendations for changes where necessary

  • Serves as primary contact for any client issues. Manages and strengthens client relationships to ensure the highest level of satisfaction is achieved throughout your relationship with Express Scripts

  • Communicates opportunities with regard to new or existing programs that enhance patient benefits and allow for cost savings

  • Delivers annual plan reviews and performance evaluations

  • Works with Express Scripts’ legal team and internal partners as the client facing representative on contracting.

  • Leads the adoption of clinical solutions to clients through consultative sales methods (e.g. client P&T presentations, quarterly/annual business reviews, presentation of modeling/reporting,etc.) in accordance with client business goals and upon collaboration and coordination with account management & internal team members.

  • Leads custom formulary management recommendation discussions with client aligning internally with enterprise formulary operational best practices and goals.  Partners with Account Team, and internal Finance & Formulary Teams to manage rebate performance to meet client contractual rebate guarantees, when applicable.

  • Leads the development, preparation, and presentation of healthcare strategy for each client assigned. Acts in concert with Account Manager to service the health management consultative needs of the client.

  • Leads clinical client Strategic Planning and Review Consultation (SPARC) meetings.  Responsible for retention, client loyalty and maximizing solution sales opportunities within assigned portfolio.  Maintains strong client relationships with clients to ensure retention/satisfaction/upsell targets are met.

  • Shares best practice standards with broader CAE peer audience as well as clients and demonstrates understanding and interpretation of current industry drug trends and how those trends may impact the health plan client’s healthcare benefit. Participation in process improvement initiatives to support the health plan healthcare benefit adapt and innovate to trends in the market.

  • Engage in client dialogue that addresses the needs of the client and membership while building trust and credibility and becoming a trusted advisor in healthcare benefit success.  Provides feedback from clients to internal partners of new product or revenue opportunities.

  • Functions as primary clinical resource and new solution product expert for the client.

Qualifications:


  • Current U.S. Pharmacist License

  • Minimum of 3 years licensure experience preferred

  • 2-3 years of Client facing experience preferred

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft applications

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills required.

  • Must have the ability to work on multiple tasks, prioritize, resolve complex issues, and have strong project management skills.

  • Ability to learn multiple internal reporting and analytic tools for client management.

  • Travel 25-40%
