NOTICE OF VACANCY POSITION: Part Time School Police DESCRIPTION: The Laurel School District is seeking qualified candidates for school police. The job of School Police Officer (Act 44 Article XIII-C Section 1301-c) is a law officer employed by the school district whose responsibilities include working work hours that are established by the school district. The Police Officer is appointed by the Court of Common Pleas and is authorized by the court, to exercise the same powers as exercised under the authority of law or ordinance by the police of the municipality in which the school property is located and serve as such at any designated school as directed by the Superintendent and or the Chief of Police. QUALIFICATIONS: High School Graduate or equivalent. Current Act 24, Act 34, Act 114, and Act 151 Clearances. Candidates must have successfully completed basic training as required by the Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission under 53 Pa.C.S. Ch. 21 Subch. D (relating to municipal police education and training) or have graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, been employed as a State trooper with the Pennsylvania State Police, and separated from that service in good standing. Current Act 120 Active Certification preferred but not required to apply. NASRO Basic School Police Training or equivalent (Preferred, but not required to apply.) Successful candidates must complete the Basic School Resource Officer Course of Instruction offered by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) or an equivalent course of instruction approved by PCCD prior to appointment to the position.
