Job Description:

The Grain Originator will have solid agricultural industry experience, and a good understanding of production agriculture, grain markets, and a strong ability to work directly and indirectly with and with others to help farmers handle production and marketing risk. This position requires management skills, and a strong ability to communicate in group and individual settings. This role will help Utah grain origination and work with sales rep to meet sales, service, and revenue goals with an emphasis on developing long-term farmer relationships to secure supply chains critical to feeding the worlds growing population and improving diets. This individual will be based at our Utah flour facility.

GRAIN ORIGINATOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Trading Operations:

  • Execution of trades, including buying and selling grain.
  • Monitor market trends, prices, and news to provide insights and recommendations.
  • Maintain and update trading records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
  • Process and manage all commodity contracts.
  • Process all incoming commodities and settle grain accounts.
  • Daily collaboration with Operations Team at Mill

Origination:

  • Identify and develop new sources of grain supply through market research and networking.
  • Build and maintain relationships with farmers, brokers, and other suppliers.
  • Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers to secure favorable pricing and supply conditions.

Market Analysis:

  • Conduct market analysis to identify opportunities for profitable trades.
  • Prepare weekly reports on market conditions, incoming wheat plans, and opportunities.

Customer Relations:

  • Collaborate with the sales team to understand customer requirements and ensure timely delivery of products.
  • Address customer inquiries and resolve issues related to product quality, delivery, and pricing.
  • Assist in the development of sales strategies to expand the customer base.
  • Manage and promote the Regenerative Sustainability Agriculture Program with farmers, brokers, and other suppliers to meet customer expectations.

Risk Management:

  • Monitor and manage trading risks, including price volatility and supply disruptions.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Hedge flour and wheat contracts with commodity brokerage·

GRAIN ORIGINATOR QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ideally, bachelor's degree business and Ag management (or equivalent experience) with internships in agriculture or 2 years' experience.
  • Strong leadership behaviors and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated safety and food safety champion behaviors.
  • Grain management experience a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills (communication, coaching, setting expectations, and providing feedback).
  • Demonstrated problem solving/decision making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and lead others to work as a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.
  • Demonstrated Lean Manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated Continuous Improvement processes.
  • Manufacturing and warehousing optimization processes.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Extreme climate or climate variation.
  • Heat up to 100 degrees and low to 40 degrees.
  • Changes of >30 degrees within a shift.
  • Exposure to manufacturing equipment hazards, especially forklifts.
  • Standing and walking on concrete floor.
  • Climbing of ladders.
