Overview

SPS Commerce is looking to add to an Internal Communication and Events Leader for our HR team. This Internal Communications and Events Leader serves as the leader for strategic internal communications and events for SPS Commerce’s (SPS) global organization. In this role, you’ll be responsible for developing internal communication of the highest standards, appropriate to audience and context, this individual works closely with the executive leadership team on communicating business information within the organization. As the leader of the communication and events team, you’ll be responsible for ensuring communications are clear, consistent, and aligned with the overall company strategy, vision, mission, strategic initiatives, and values. In addition, creating and delivering compelling content that strengthens the company culture, engages employees, and elevates the employee experience.

Our ideal candidate will possess outstanding communication skills and expertise in corporate communications, employee experience, employee branding, and events management. This position will report to the Chief Human Resources Officer and work closely with other functions such as Legal, Finance, Marketing, and the Executive Leadership team.

Day to Day Focus

Strategy

  • Lead the development and implementation of SPS’s internal communications and event strategy.
  • Develop innovative strategies for delivering effective and engaging employee communications globally.
  • Lead communications efforts for corporate-wide projects and initiatives.
  • Create and oversee content development in support of organization’s objectives, both locally and globally, ensuring the tone and strategy is aligned with our vision, mission, strategic initiatives, and values.
  • Serve as the company’s spokesperson on internal communications matters.

Execution

  • Work directly with executive leadership and various senior leaders to create and execute key internal communications plans. Specifically related to annual strategic initiatives, operating plans and mergers and acquisitions.
  • Partner with senior leaders across the organization to ensure communications are aligned with business objectives, strategic initiatives, SPS’ culture, and values.
  • Manage crisis communications, ensuring all employees are informed and up to date.
  • Identify opportunities to promote employee engagement and help maintain a positive company culture.
  • Establish events or tools for effective executive communications that can be applied across the company (e.g., quarterly company meetings, annual Growth Summit, CEO communications, etc.).
  • Provide leadership and guidance to ensure internal communications are aligned with external communications, social media, and marketing efforts.

Planning & Management

  • Develop and maintain a content calendar to ensure internal communications are timely and relevant.
  • Oversee the day-to-day scheduling and operations of Global Directory, the company’s internal website. This includes understanding news value, reviewing the editorial calendar and technical capabilities of the site as well as authoring content.
  • Direct the planning and execution of internal corporate events with a range of complexity from small, simple monthly celebrations, quarterly company meetings, and annual employee appreciation events to large-scale, high-profile events such as annual Growth Summit. This includes preparation of agendas, scripts, and related collateral to promote business alignment, employee engagement and strengthen the culture.
  • Oversee all aspects of events, including logistics, budgeting, vendor, and partner management, and working with internal stakeholders to drive strategy around a particular event
  • In partnership with Human Resources, manage all diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging events and communications including employee resource group (ERG) events, key holidays, and recognition events
  • Monitor and measure the effectiveness of internal communications and make recommendations for improvement based on feedback and data analysis.
  • Manage the company’s internal communication tools, ensuring they are up-to-date and user-friendly

Leadership

  • Manage a team of communications and events professionals, providing leadership, guidance, and coaching; developing team members to grow in their capabilities and deliver on overall strategy and priorities.
  • Facilitate team learning, understanding and knowledge sharing.

What Skills do I need

  • Twelve (12) or more years of experience performing internal communications and corporate event roles within a global company.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience leading, managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated accomplishments managing effective communication of complex organization challenges (e.g., diverse businesses, locations, time zones).
  • Proven track record of teamwork, innovation, and results in the employee communication function.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and verbal communication skills; proficiency to write clearly and concisely on complex topics for a diverse set of audiences.
  • Strong, direct, positive interpersonal skills to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to interact and influence at all levels of an organization.
  • Experience with cutting-edge communications practices and technologies.
  • Understanding of new technologies and applications in the electronic messaging and communications field.
  • Ability to establish and meet deadlines, work under pressure and handle multiple priorities.
  • Dynamic, motivated and self-starter.
  • Flexible and adaptable to change.
