This role is a 12-month contract. Schedule is Mon-Fri 8am-5pm.




Job Description



The purpose of this position is to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations pertaining to the management of hazardous wastes at an analytical testing laboratory. Position has responsibility ensuring compliance with environmental/safety/health regulations. Position is responsible for managing special projects through use of diverse resources. This position's supervisor or other appropriate position is consulted for clarification of policies only where needed.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:





  • Demonstrates and promotes the company vision

  • Regular attendance and punctuality

  • Applies GMP/GLP in all areas of responsibility, as appropriate

  • Manages the daily activities of the hazardous waste storage and disposal per regulations outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations, 40 CFR (EPA) and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

  • Packages, transports, and removes containers of hazardous waste from the facility per U.S. Dept. of Transportation regulations. Will be trained in manifesting, packaging, labeling, marking, handling and management of containers.

  • Coordinates with hazardous waste disposal vendors the removal of wastes for company.

  • Interacts with staff to resolve issues related to proper management of hazardous wastes (via email, lab consultations, or training).

  • Develops and implements operating procedures and guidelines pertaining to the consolidation and storage of hazardous wastes.

  • Consolidates hazardous wastes to reduce disposal costs and minimizes amounts of waste shipped off-site for treatment.

  • Maintains wastes characterization data, sampling, and analysis records. (Reflecting volume and type of wastes received.)

  • Manages special projects through use of diverse resources.

  • Provides input into the proper expenditure of resources.

  • Participates on the Hazardous Materials team with the ability to respond to releases for the purpose of assessment, stabilization and remediation.

  • Perform and document routine facility and equipment inspections.

  • Able to lift 70 pounds.

  • Conducts all activities in a safe and efficient manner

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Responsible for monthly weekly and daily EHS requirements at the Madison facility including but not limited to: hazardous waste management, facility inspections, training, ergonomic assessment, etc.

  • Develop effective working relationships with site management, employees and the EHS community to drive continuous improvement in EHS performance.

  • Conduct Job Safety Analysis and Risk Assessment to develop safe work procedures on all shifts. Compile data to assess existing processes and practices; determine severity and frequency of problems; identify needs and solutions. Design and implement special programs to correct adverse EHS performance trends.

  • Conduct facility audits. Recommend actions for corrections of hazardous situations. Conduct operation audits of required EHS related documentation to ensure compliance. Prepare audit result reports and follow up on remediation required.

  • Prepare weekly, monthly and annual required reports for EHS as assigned.

  • Participate and influence the dynamics of the site Safety Committee meetings for EHS.

  • Maintain databases and reporting systems for EHS training, incidents and other policies and procedures as required.

  • Ensure compliance of local, state and federal rules and regulations applicable to the Madison site operations. Keep abreast of changes in local, state, federal and industry standards and codes and the effect on prevention programs.

  • Conducts all activities in a safe and efficient manner

  • Performs other duties as assigned




Qualifications



To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill or ability required.


  • HS Diploma required

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in a science related field is preferred but not required

  • Previous Lab Experience preferred but is not required
