The Role
Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.
This position is for a Piping Designer 4 role for the Submarine Engineering - Advanced Capabilities team in Department E35, specifically for the Whole Ship, excluding the Propulsion Plant (PP), design of our nations next Nuclear Powered Fast Attack Submarine, SSN(X). Candidates should be prepared to work in a collaborative and fast-paced environment closely with E35 Engineering and Design personnel throughout the SSN(X) conceptual and design phases of the program. The selected candidate will lead and mentor other Piping Designers for Whole Ship Piping Design studies for future US Navy Attack Submarines. The candidate will also be responsible for leading and mentoring other Piping Designers supporting technology research and development studies as well as coordinating with other design and engineering disciplines as the design matures to ensure proper integration of your systems. This is all to influence enhanced capabilities of future US Navy Submarine including support of Undersea Warfare (USW) design concepts. Candidate should be able to develop and effectively communicate design packages to both internal and external customer(s).
Must Have
Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience
