Job Description:

Job Summary

The Tax Manager is responsible for multi-state indirect tax returns which include sales and use tax, property tax and business license filings. This position will assist in the preparation of the annual tax provision, support our annual financial statement audit, support mergers and acquisitions tax diligence and assist in tax research and preparation.

Primary Functions:

  • Manage all aspects of the preparation and timely filing of all state / local indirect tax returns including: sales & use tax, gross receipts tax, personal property tax and business licenses.

  • Maintain the Company's tax calendar and monitor changes in tax law to ensure the Company is compliant and in good standing in all jurisdictions.

  • Assist and manage the preparation of the annual tax provision.

  • Assist and supervise tax preparers with annual returns.

  • Assist in the monthly balance sheet account reconciliation process to ensure accuracy of tax accounts.

  • Assist in management of all indirect tax audits to ensure tax audits are efficiently managed and closed on a timely basis.

  • Provide support with the annual financial statement audit process and annual tax provision.

  • Respond to correspondence / notices from state and local tax authorities.

  • Perform technical tax research and prepare documentation required to support tax positions as needed.

  • Assist with tax planning and identification / implementation of tax savings opportunities.

  • Support merger and acquisition research and analysis, including sales and use tax due diligence activities and exposure analysis.

  • Comply with SOX 404 policies and procedures.

  • Provide input on tax issues

  • Assist in technical tax review and approval of returns and examinations

  • Lead the completion of larger tax returns

  • Perform tax research projects

  • Participate in client meetings and tax planning efforts

  • Act as a resource on specific tax issues and/or questions

  • Maintain contact with client personnel

  • Finalize engagements

  • Provide information for preparation of invoices and details of fees

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Master's degree or CPA preferred

  • 3-7 years of experience in public accounting, demonstrating a proven progression in tax return complexity, scope, and research

Secondary Functions:

  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.

    Other Responsibilities:

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.

  • Other duties/projects as assigned by Manager.


Education and Years of Experience:

  • BA or BS degree in Accounting.

  • Master's degree or CPA preferred

  • 3-7 years of experience in public accounting, demonstrating a proven progression in tax return complexity, scope, and research

Certifications, Licenses, Credentials:

  • CPA license preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • High level analytical abilities and communication skills, both verbal and written, are required.

  • Extensive knowledge of Excel including use of v-lookups and pivot tables is required.

  • Proficiency with Great Plains is strongly preferred.

  • Proficiency with FRx and/or Management Reporter is preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Access is preferred.

  • Self-motivated, ability to work under pressure and on own initiative is required.

  • Careful attention to detail and the ability to organize and manage deadlines is required.

  • Flexibility to navigate a fluid and fast-paced environment is required.

    Physical requirements (lifting, etc.):

  • Periodic lifting up to 10 pounds.

  • Sitting for long periods of time.

  • Use of hands for computer work.

  • Periodic standing, walking, reaching, and bending.
