This person is skilled at making connections, building relationships and has top-notch interviewing skills. In addition to being a creative storyteller and skilled interviewer, they must be extremely detailed, organized, and have impeccable editorial judgment. The Content Specialist is an innovative and collaborative team player who will work closely with the Editorial Manager on content planning and execution. This role requires attention to detail, creativity, versatility, flexibility, strong collaborations skills and the ability to tailor communications to a variety of audiences and channels.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Research, write, edit, fact check and proofread content for internal and external communications.
Review and edit internal stories submitted by other communicators.
Optimize writing for various online channels, with social media, email, video and print writing as needed.
Adapt press releases and external stories for 3M Go.
Develop compelling headlines and story angles to increase readership of content.
Align stories to 3M/Editorial priorities.
Write/publish multiple stories each week.
Manage workload that includes planned, scheduled content as well as quick-turnaround stories such as breaking news, disaster relief, and more, without missing a beat.
Maintain a strong connection with Editorial Manager and Content Coordinator to ensure alignment on content, processes and timing.
Pitch story ideas aligned to Editorial priorities on a weekly basis (or more often if time-sensitive) based on communications with clients; build out as far in advance as possible with campaigns in mind.
Keep editorial planning calendar updated with scheduled stories; adjust timing as needed.
Own editorial topics and related partnerships; create processes for effectively working with related partners and address issues as they arise.
Partner with internal clients, communicators and brand managers to understand business strategy, insights and communications objectives.
Create communication plans that incorporate other channels as appropriate and recommend story angles to achieve objectives.
Write creative briefs as needed to communicate the creative direction in alignment with project goals, including amplification plans for each story.
Collaborate with designers, user experience partners and creative resources to bring content to life.
Proactively seek out and own story creation from start to finish, including finding and resizing appropriate images, obtaining photo releases and managing all necessary approvals and signoffs.
Recommend and manage video production when it makes sense from a content, timing, budget and bandwidth standpoint.
Work with other Communications teams and members to ensure tactics and content are aligned.
Work with urgency, meeting deadlines while creating high-quality work.
Use metrics to gauge effectiveness of writing and communication approaches for continuous learning and decision-making.
Ensure all content aligns with 3M corporate brand and employment brand in terms of style, tone of voice and quality.
Follow and maintain 3M Internal Style Guide.
Post content to 3M Go; become an expert in submitting 3M Go News and Events, including Celum and Microsoft Stream.
Serve as backup approver for 3M Go News and Events.
Serve as backup for Celum.
Review and proof weekly Events Calendar Roundup.
Update 3M Go Resource Center and other 3M Go online content as needed.
Build out and own 3M Go internal style guide.
Guide other communicators as needed regarding 3M Go processes, content, etc.
Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in internal and/or external communications, Public Relations (PR), and/or social media in aprivate, public, government, or military environment
Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or English from an accredited institution
Strategic thinking and ability to develop creative solutions
Ability to translate complex material into engaging communications
Strong reporting and interviewing skills a must
Excellent collaboration skills and ability to develop solid working relationships with partners and vendors, including senior leadership
Ability to write in a variety of lengths and styles for both internal and external audiences
Experience in multimedia, video and developing presentations
Experience with internal collaboration and/or external social media tools
Experience with content management systems and social listening too
Very strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent editorial skills including grammar, spelling, punctuation and strong working knowledge of AP style
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word and PowerPoint
