Job Summary:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the 3M Treasury Division which focuses on managing 3M’s financial risks.  The person hired for this role will provide execution and analytical support for foreign exchange, short-term investing and borrowing, and capital markets activities.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Develop FX trading plans and accurately execute transactions to manage the company’s exposure to foreign exchange rate fluctuations

  • Assist in selection of securities to safeguard corporate cash while generating market-based returns

  • Execute commercial paper transactions to enhance liquidity profile and maintain low corporate borrowing costs

  • Support the execution of interest rate derivatives

  • Provide leadership during preparation and execution of long-term debt transactions

  • Assist in improvement of current risk management and investment processes

  • Develop tools to monitor existing derivative portfolios, and to assist in evaluating ongoing risk management strategies

  • Develop excellent relationships with banking and other external financial partners

  • Build and maintain expert knowledge of capital markets and recent debt transactions relevant to 3M

  • Adhere to policies pertaining to risk management, investing, and borrowing activities

  • Ensure trading activities are compliant with SOX guidelines

  • Assemble external research and data pertaining to financial market trends

  • Prepare updates for Treasury, corporate leadership, and Board of Directors on risk management and investment activities

  • Collaborate with global Treasury team and other departments, including Tax, Legal and Accounting

  • Perform analysis on corporate finance topics, including capital structure, cost of capital, debt capacity, shareholder dividends, risk management, and share repurchase

Basic Qualifications:


  • Possess a Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited university, in Finance, Accounting, or Economics

  • Minimum of three (3) combined years of finance and/or accounting experience in a private, public, government or military environment

  • Experience using pivot tables and VLOOKUPs in Microsoft Excel

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Advanced degree, or progress towards an MBA or CFA certification

  • Treasury or financial markets experience

  • Understanding of financial markets and instruments

  • Knowledge of finance theory and concepts

  • Knowledge of accounting principles

  • Ability to collaborate with and influence a diverse group of stakeholders around the world

  • Ability to think strategically and develop plans to achieve the Treasury vision

  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office tools

  • Excellent communication and persuasion skills

  • SAP knowledge

Location: Maplewood, MN

Travel: Minimal, up to 5%
