Scope of Work - Main duties, settings, geography, reporting relationships, other relationships:

Be the subject matter expert for System Safety/Systems Engineering methodology (Prevention Through Design) focus, ensuring effective hazards identification and risk assessment practices are utilized, validated, verified and leveraged across AVANGRID's operational areas, Process & Technology group, and management.

Provide effective system safety/systems engineering methods (Prevention Through Design) input into H&S risk reduction plans, risk registry, and overall AVANGRID risk management initiatives (OHSAS 18001/45001). Promote organizational resilience by ensuring safe work practices remain an active part of the day-to-day work environment and within the culture at AVANGRID. Travel throughout the assigned service area to support project work, H&S initiatives, and special assignments.

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Scope of work - range of responsibilities):

Be a "hands on" partner in the delivery of H&S initiatives and programs in support of AVANGRID H&S continuous improvement process with emphasis on Human Organizational Performance (HOP) ("no harm, no blame, no shame learning culture").

Work with and provide on-going support and influence to AVANGRID Networks, with emphasis on Process and Technology/Engineering and Projects, to incorporate system safety/system engineering (Prevention Through

Design) processes and methods into projects and operational management: conceptual to final design, construction implementation (including specifications and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)), operational use (including human factors/human systems integration), and lifecycle/maintenance/reliability support (PHL, PHA, SRCA, FMECA, etc.).

Conduct Job Hazard Assessments (JHA), hazard identifications, and risk assessments within operating areas across the AVANGRID Network lines of business. Provide on-going collaborative support of other AVANGRID safety professionals.

Provide support to the AVANGRID Manager of Contractor Safety, contractors and other support groups to ensure that project safety requirements, specifications and safety required operating instructions are being met.

Support scheduled internal facility-based H&S compliance inspections, as well as, external 3rd Party audits (semi-annual and annual).

Perform Hazardous Materials Management (HAZMAT) and "chemical sweep" facility inspections, as requested. Establish working relationships with union officials.

Available to travel 50-80% within the designated operating area (domestic) and as requested/assigned in support of AVANGRID H&S initiatives and training.

Available for emergency restoration assignments (Storm events) performing duties related to safety, as assigned.



Education & Experience Required:

* Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of four years relevant experience preferred. * Associates Degree with a minimum of seven years relevant experience or, High School Diploma/GED required with 10 years relevant experience and the completion of the relevant progression program. * Minimum of five years Electric Transmission and Distribution (T&D) or gas construction experience, or * Electric: Minimum of Lineworker 1/c rating, or * Gas: Minimum lead street/gas technician * Knowledge of line or gas work and construction, or * Knowledge of line, electric theory, switching & tagging or GSOR, labor agreement, industry level safety protocols and procedures. * Knowledge of industry codes, regulations and standards including but not limited to: NEC, NESC, USEPA, NFPA, OSHA. * Additional related certifications/licenses preferred (P.E., CUSP, CSP, CIH, CHMM, PMP).


* Excellent verbal communications and technical writing skills. * Strong project management and negotiation skills. * Able to work multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently. * Proven field experience and knowledge of safe work practices and methods, applicable State, federal and/or local level regulations and standards, utility (gas, electric, renewables) safety practices and methods. * Proficient in problem solving, resolution facilitation, and collaborative team building.
