Job Description:

Oncology is a key area for GSK with the rapidly evolving treatment landscape and high unmet patient need providing a significant opportunity to deliver transformational medicines for patients.

As a key member of the Communications and Government Affairs team (CGA) the Director, Global Oncology Communications will lead the day-to-day management of communications activities, including data and milestones for one of the key assets in the GSK Oncology portfolio. You will lead the development and implementation of strategic, integrated communications plans, which are aligned to our business priorities and the overall oncology plan.  You will also be responsible for:

  • Leadership of CGA activities across oncology, including activities to support individual assets and leaders (commercial and R&D), to support GSK’s successful entry into the market place

  • Demonstrate full understanding of the oncology strategy and translate that into fully aligned brand plans

  • Provide direction and guidance to allow prioritization of activities and actions, particularly around key program milestones within the GF and more broadly across GSK

  • Prepare key spokespeople (talking points, Q&A, etc.) to tell the ‘GSK pharma’ story to external audiences, and position GSK’s oncology portfolio and activities within this story

  • Providing input and support as needed for asset related media inquiries and/or corporate issues within GSK

  • Help to manage newsflow externally (and internally) to ensure ‘share of voice’, maintain consistency and quality, maximize impact and reduce ‘noise’

  • Support the development and execution of strategic CGA activities within oncology to support and deliver against the overall business objectives and drive effective uptake / delivery within the markets

  • Serve as point of contact for relevant stakeholders across GSK (such as Regional CGA networks, Global Media Team, Investor Relations, Patients in Partnership, Market Access) to inform and influence the development of the CGA strategy and tactics to ensure utility and applicability

  • Provide effective counsel to the key oncology leadership team on effective communications, issues management and strategic external activities

  • Assist in develop materials for key external briefings, shareholder events, media activities, (e.g. news flow, quarterly results and disclosures)

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • 10+ years communications experience in either corporate, product & / or healthcare communications (in-house or agency) experience

  • Practical understanding of the global regulatory and legal environment in general and specifically how it affects communications for prescription medicines across US and Europe in particular.

  • Prior experience leading matrixed teams; must be able to influence and engage key stakeholders to contribute to the development of and implementation of CGA strategies and activities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years recent experience working in Oncology in either corporate, product & / or healthcare communications (in-house or agency) experience

  • Previous experience in across communications disciplines including product communications, issues management and media relations, and understanding of investor relations.
