Job Description

The Automation Engineer will be based in Columbia, SC. In this position, you will be responsible for specifying, designing and maintaining automation equipment, tooling and applications as required to meet specifications

**This position is 12 hours shift – 07:00 am to 07:35 pm**

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do:


  • Execute machine installation and qualification protocols

  • Compile data for validation/verification reports

  • Develop operation and maintenance procedures

  • Train production personnel to safely operate, troubleshoot, and maintain equipment

  • Provide corrective maintenance support to production personnel to return faulted/failed machines to service

  • Develop and execute continuous improvement projects to improve machine OEE (downtime, yield, scrap)

  • Collaborate with cross-functional team to identify root cause of production issues and develop creative solutions to resolve

  • Follow and execute change management process when implementing new equipment or modification/refurbishment to existing equipment

  • Interface with customer to explain technical solutions to production problems and characterize cost/benefit decision

  • Design and engineer moderately-complex automation equipment, tooling and applications

  • Participate in design reviews

  • Implement cost effective automation

  • Prepare and maintain documentation related to the operation of the automation equipment

Here is some of what you’ll need (required):


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics.

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, deploying, and/or maintaining high-speed automated assembly, filling, and packaging equipment

  • Automation equipment troubleshooting and electro-mechanical engineering experience/knowledge

  • Ability to accommodate flexible work schedule (evenings, nights, weekends).

  • Experience with high-volume automation applications in the medical device, pharmaceutical, food, beverage, or electronics industries

  • Experience with SCADA-based production control systems. Experience with 3D CAD software and automation simulation software

  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification

  • Knowledge of automated equipment systems and tools - robotics, vision, material handling, conveyors, PLC, HMI, form/fill/seal equipment, automated packaging equipment, application of lasers (e.g. Etching/Marking), filling and dispense processes, servos, sensors

  • Candidates must be 21 years or older
