Job Description:

The Manager, Stable Value Risk is an essential member of the Stable Value Risk Monitoring team. The team’s focus is identifying, quantifying, monitoring, mitigating and reporting risk that impact the Stable Value business in Prudential. The primary focus of this role is leading a team of underwriting analysts responsible for monitoring, analyzing and making recommendations related to liability risks of the Stable Value business, which totals almost $120 billion in assets across more than 5,000 contracts. The incumbent will manage staff responsible for underwriting Stable Value risks for new business transactions (deposits, withdrawals, investment reallocations, contract amendments, etc.) and inforce cases (ongoing re-underwriting). He / she will work with peers from Product, Actuarial, Finance, and External Stable Value Managers, on liability risk management, and recommend contract terms to manage risk. He / she will be responsible for the Stable Value Underwriting policies and procedures and serve as subject matter expert in new product/market development analysis and recommendations. The role is also expected to provide leadership, analysis and expertise in investment and operational risk as it pertains to the Stable Value business.


Main Job Responsibilities:

Assess and specify the conditions under which Prudential is willing to accept risk on Stable Value business, for both prospective and inforce accounts. This includes, but is not limited to, the analysis of demographic data, plan design, industry review, actual case specific cash flow experience, and final risk assumption on sold business. Demonstrate the ability to take intelligent risk that turns resolution of client issues into opportunities to help satisfy our business goals.

Actively monitor the fixed income and stable value markets. Identify emerging trends and opportunities and recommend appropriate action.

Communicate and partner with the Distribution, Product Management, Contract, Relationship Management, and Legal areas within Retirement regarding case issues, contract features, and underwriting assessments.

  • Four-year degree required. Major in mathematics, finance or economics is preferred

  • MBA or CFA preferred

  • 4-7 years of Financial Services experience

  • Stable Value, Insurance Product Management, Fixed Income Investment Management and/or Risk Management and financial risk modeling, including stochastic modeling experience preferred

  • Fixed Income product management &/or development a plus

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to work independently in a deadline-oriented environment

  • Team leadership and process management experience preferred

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office
