Accountability Objective: You have direct responsibility and authority for the management of the business unit to achieve growth and profit in line with the budget and strategic plan. The strategic plan encompasses a strategic vision, mission, objectives and strategy. This lays out the future direction, business model, performance targets, and competitive strategy. You are responsible for all financial, technical, quality, human resource, business development, client relationship, commercial, health, safety and environment matters related to the business unit. You provide leadership to the business unit through active promotion and demonstration of the core ALS values of:

Asset Care philosophy is the overall goal to become the one stop shop for inspection and testing - from the construction, commissioning, operating and decommissioning of the industry assets.
You ensure active personnel management to develop staff to their potential in line with company requirements and foster a positive, high performance culture.
You ensure that all the aspects of the business operations including personnel safety, quality, client relations, sales, environmental management, financial performance, work planning and scheduling and equipment maintenance run smoothly and efficiently and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
You are a strong leader in stakeholder management including both internal and external stakeholders.
• Key account management - Client focused / service excellence. Establish trusted long-term relationships with clients and potential clients. • Research industry and market, analyse competitor activity. • Monitor all contractual obligations (commercial & technical). • Management, administration and responsibility for all health, safety and environmental (HSE) matters related to the business unit including implementation of company policies and procedures and working to continuously improve HSE culture with the goal of achieving zero harm. • Management, administration and responsibility for all quality matters related to the business unit including new employee inductions, technical audits, equipment calibration and maintenance, training records management and incident management. • Development and execution of the medium and long-term strategies for the business unit, in line with regional, business stream and company strategy, and establishment of annual budget and business plan in co-operation with the General Manager - North America. • Effective and efficient business unit management to achieve or exceed budget profitability, planned growth and development. Work cooperatively with the other managers to ensure all company resources and equipment are fully and effectively utilized. • Management of work in progress (WIP) and debtors in accordance with company objectives. • Analysis of monthly performance against forecast and budget. Identify and initiate corrective action and communicate this to staff and senior management. • Review monthly income statement, cash flow statement, and balance sheet. Verification of proper allocation and determine future proforma with forecast and budget. • Provision of timely monthly reports in the required format including business unit reporting, Balanced Scorecard, HSE, and Quality. • Management and support of staff so as to achieve optimum results and productivity at all levels. Develop staff by setting objectives, conducting annual performance reviews, coaching and succession planning. • Management and support of staff in accordance with corporate HR policy and relevant staff industrial instruments. Optimise staff utilization through management of uncharged labour, overtime, leave balances, etc. • Establishment and execution of training plans to ensure business unit has the appropriate skills required to meet business plan expectations. • Awareness of the content and intent of all relevant company policies and procedures ensuring that they are implemented and followed. • Implementation and encouragement of a team approach within a continuous improvement and 'doing it better' culture. • Awareness and knowledge of competitors and their activities and strategies within the region. • Development and execution of strategies to exceed client expectations. • Development and execution of a disciplined sales and client retention strategy. • Preparation of tenders, proposals and submissions in accordance with the bid governance process. • Preparation and justification of capital expenditure requests for the business unit. • Client service orientated • Self-motivated / results focussed • Driven by performance via challenging targets • Team player • Able to undertake frequent travel • Able to quickly grasp technical concepts • Highly organized • Strong attention to detail • Able to work to strict deadlines • Strong negotiation skills • Sound knowledge of energy and resource sector • Excellent written and oral communication skills • Commitment to ALS core values (as listed above)
• Engineering or materials tertiary qualifications or trade qualifications in an engineering discipline with project management and supervisory experience. • Minimum five years of managerial / supervisory experience in a field related to engineering, testing or inspection.
