Job Description:
Salary: Minimum $42,261.12/year; $20.24/hr (possible higher salary depending upon experience and qualifications), paid monthly

The University of Iowa is seeking an Electrician I for Utilities, Electrical Distribution. Under direct supervision, applies knowledge, skills, and abilities at the journey level to install and repair electrical systems and equipment (generally less than 600V). Specific responsibilities include installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and replacement of:
• Outdoor, overhead campus lighting systems for streets, parking lots and walkways.
• Motors for pumps, compressors and fans in power, steam, chilled water and water production facilities.
• Lighting, pump and ventilation systems in power, steam and chilled water underground distribution facilities.

Work is frequently outdoors in all seasons, and indoors in industrial facilities and underground with tight spaces, temperature extremes, noise, dirt, etc.

This position has the opportunity for on-the-job training and advancement to an Electrician, High Voltage (600V - 15kV) position subject to meeting qualifications.

Other duties and responsibilities include:
• Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and replaces electrical systems and electrical operated equipment (generally less than 600V), including but not limited to circuit breakers, relays, switches, wiring, conduit, receptacles, and magnetic starters and controls.
• Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and replaces electrical equipment, including but not limited to electric motors, transformers, generators, lights, fixtures, bulbs, tubes, motor control systems, and meters.
• Draws layouts, reads and interprets blueprints, schematics and other drawings.
• As required, estimates materials needed and records time and materials expended on each work order.
• Performs preventative maintenance on electrical equipment and systems.
• Requires the knowledge of and ability to interpret local, state, and national electrical codes.
• Requires the ability to interpret instructions, design specifications, and blueprints.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements
  • Requires State of Iowa Class A or B Journeyman Electrical license.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and meet University's Fleet Safety Program.
Desirable Qualifications

  • Emergency response time to campus within 30-45 minutes is desired.
