Insider is hiring a paid editorial fellow to write visual features for its lifestyle desk.
The Insider Fellowship Program is for early career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are assigned to teams and become experts in digital storytelling. They produce real work that is distributed to our audience of millions, and by the end of six months are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers. For more information on the Insider Fellowship Program, see here.
The visual features fellow will work on Insider’s lifestyle team, writing beautiful slideshows that tell a story in Insider’s smart, conversational style geared toward a general audience. They will seek out compelling photos and illustration series, interview everyone from photographers to influencers, and go out in the world to take photos of their own, walking readers through an architect’s tiny home or the latest quirky restaurant to open in New York City.
They can expect to write a variety of slideshows, including tours like “Scott Disick made his kids a $100,000 playhouse that is nicer than your apartment,” experiences like “A new 'Harry Potter'-inspired café in New York serves Butterbeer coffee in a magical setting,” lists like “51 mesmerizing photos of the most colorful places on Earth,” and interviews such as “A newlywed couple traveled to 33 countries for their honeymoon, and the bride wore her dress the whole time.”
The visual features fellow will also feature the work of professional artists, like “A photographer had people pose for their picture with their clothes on and off for a striking side-by-side series,” and occasionally put together slideshows that challenge readers, such as “40 mind-boggling optical illusions that have stumped the internet.”
