Scientist

Key Objectives/Principal Accountabilities

• Independently conceives, plans, and conducts research, which could have a considerable influence on scientific knowledge or technological developments. Usually performs as staff advisor/consultant relative to a scientific or technical specialty.

• Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others.

• Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed experimental approaches, techniques, or equipment when necessary data are insufficient or confirmation by testing is advisable.

• Proposes strategic R&D programs for chemistry and process.

• Regularly leads one or more Focus projects. As project leader, drives progress and reviews results of project team overall, as well as individual members.

Qualifications

Requirements

• Ph.D. in chemical engineering with 5+ years of experience

• Knowledge of organic chemistry with emphasis on nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur derivatives

• Knowledge of analytical methods, especially nmr, ir, and gc/ms

• Knowledge of unit operations for batch and continuous reactors

• Demonstrated creativity and work ethic

• Good mechanical and mathematical skills, including basic calculus and statistics

• Possesses a strong work ethic, self-starter, good oral and written communications skills, and proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs, molecular drawing, and design of experiments (DOE)

Other Skills

• Knowledge of amine synthetic chemistry

• Knowledge of surfactants principles and applications

• Knowledge of catalysis, especially transition metal catalysis

• Knowledge of surfactants principles and applications

• Possesses interpersonal skills suitable for customer interactions
