Job Description:

The RNA Research Division of New England Biolabs (NEB) invites applicants for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow. The successful candidate will be a key part of an interdisciplinary team working with chemists and biologists to develop novel methods to characterize and map modified ribonucleic acids. Projects will involve the development of experimental and computational tools for the analysis of RNA modifications with focus on mass spectrometry techniques. Research will be undertaken in a highly collaborative and academic environment where publication of results is expected.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design innovative strategies for mapping RNA modifications by comparative and de novo RNA sequencing using multi-stage mass spectrometry

  • Implement and improve experimental and computational tools for RNA modification identification and sequencing

  • Conduct and support research projects to enable discovery and characterization of ribonucleases and RNA modifying enzymes

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in chemical or biological sciences

  • Hands-on experience with mass spectrometry is required

  • Competent handling of common bioinformatics tools and willingness to apply them creatively to analyze nucleic acids

  • Publication of original scientific work in high-quality journals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of nucleic acid chemistry is a major plus

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative setting

  • Strong work ethic, emphasizing both efficiency and quality of work
