IDC's Enterprise Applications Research group is looking to fill the role of Research Manager, Enterprise Applications. The Research Manager role is a relatively public role with many client-facing and industry-facing responsibilities, including regular interaction with major software vendors, cloud services providers and industry players.
The ideal Research Manager will be responsible for conducting and delivering the research published in the Enterprise Application research service, helping to provide coverage of up to 15 different application markets, including ERP, Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Enterprise Asset Management, Finance, etc. Research focus will explore enterprise applications across all industries, evaluating the common denominators, differentiators and innovation aspects now and into the future.
Primary responsibilities will include:
Interacting with clients
Conducting market research
Writing research reports
Producing custom research (i.e. white papers, ROI studies, market assessments, etc.)
Delivering public speaking engagements and webcasts (i.e. speaking at industry conferences and customer events)
Additional responsibilities include managing the research agenda, helping with marketing activities, conducting business development, providing sales support, and acting effectively as a client advisor for industrial companies and technology suppliers.
The 4 primary skills required to be successful in this role include:
Knowledge – A strong understanding of the Enterprise Applications market and related technology.
Writing skills – Excellent writing skills. Ability to write research reports quickly and clearly, in a prescription fashion, offering business and technology advice to clients.
Speaking skills – Ability to handle client inquiries over the phone or in-person, deliver webcasts, and speak publicly at meetings or events.
Being a self-motivated hard worker – The ideal candidate must have strong work ethics, be self-motivated to be a thought leader in the enterprise applications space and be collaborative to work with team members towards ground-breaking research.
A solid understanding of enterprise application technology and strategy, and broader information technology in general
7+ years of Enterprise Applications related work experience
A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Business, or related focus, Master's degree a plus
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required.
Proven track record of multi-tasking, meeting deadlines and delivering projects on time/budget
Extremely organized, with strong analytical skills
Travel (approximately 10-20%) will be required as needed
