Function/Duties of Position

Seeking a Master's level biostatistician within a highly collegial academic environment. The Research Associate plays a part in advancing the department's goal of using clinical, survey, and administrative data for research, quality improvement and improvement of our patients' health. Responsibilities include:
  • Collaboration with family medicine faculty and research investigators on the analysis of a variety of data sources: clinical, survey data linked to Medicare records, and biomarker data under the direction of a doctoral-level faculty member
  • Importing data, data management, selecting appropriate statistical methods, conducting and summarizing analyses, preparing tables and figures, and drafting the methods and results sections of reports, manuscripts or grants for research studies or quality improvement reports
  • Performs research support tasks such as eliciting requirements from research partners, collaboration across multiple partners to ensure data integrity, coding to build a design, performing critical analyses of the literature relevant to ongoing or planned research projects, and ensuring functional and quality requirements are always met as well as complying with data use agreements and appropriate handling of sensitive data
  • Projects include both short-term collaborations and long-term research efforts

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in statistics/biostatistics or quantitative related fields (e.g. Epidemiology) or major courses in relevant field and 3 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor's degree with major courses in field of research (or RN or allied health professional) and 5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience as a statistical programmer and/or analyst, using various advanced analytical methods such as multi-level modeling, mixed models, longitudinal data analysis, generalized linear models, and survival analysis
  • Ability/experience in writing scholarly work
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a wide range of statistical methods to real-world clinical data
  • Proficiency with Stata, R, SAS (including macro language, ODS, and graphics) or Stata
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with statisticians and non-statisticians alike
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to import/export data into and/or from various formats into standard statistical software
  • Self-motivated to acquire new skills
  • Ability to work on multiple research questions simultaneously

  • Experience with survey data
