Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Process Engineer/Technician for our St. Marys, GA Extrusion plant. Reporting to the General Manager of Operations, the Process Engineer/Technician is responsible for supporting the Extrusion Plants Vision of creating long term value measured by reduction in downtime, rework claims, rework materials & improved first pass yield in production. The long-term value is created through the application of Georgia-Pacific’s management philosophy Market Based Management (MBM®) & Georgia-Pacific’s Guiding Principles.

St. Mary’s is a facility specializing in extrusion by adding poly on board that is delivered to Dixie facilities for Dixie Cups production. St. Mary’s is a union facility with 65 employees and is located in Camden County, GA. Located on Georgia's southernmost coast, Camden County encompasses the communities of Kingsland, Saint Mary’s, Woodbine, and Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. Camden County is located on the GA/FL line, just north of Jacksonville, Florida. Historic St. Mary’s Georgia offers picturesque streets lined with centuries old live-oaks and the restorative beauty of waterways and marshes. It is also the gateway to Cumberland Island, Georgia's largest and southernmost barrier island. Here, pristine maritime forests, undeveloped beaches and wide marshes whisper the stories of both man and nature. Cumberland Island is also home to over 9,800 acres of Congressionally Designated Wilderness.


 

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:


 


  • Promoting and developing a culture where all employees are 100% involved in safety activities including:

    • Addressing unsafe conditions, behaviors & practices in a timely manner

    • Identifying safety gaps and initiating self-corrective actions



  • Performing data analysis, assess & optimizing the extrusion process

  • Leading & supporting root cause analysis (RCA) for the production process

  • Designing, testing, upgrading and running production systems & processes

  • Developing and implementing best practices and innovative solutions to improve and optimize production rates, quality output & uptime

  • Developing and standardizing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), troubleshooting guidelines, statistical process control (SPC) processing and utilizing consistent (repeatable) training methods for the operators on the extrusion lines

  • Leading capital projects that are to be executed in production or at the site

  • Continuing to develop & share knowledge with the extrusion personnel & manufacturing engineers

  • Collaborating with R&D and other GP facilities when a new product or process is being introduced or upgraded


 

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:


  • Three (3) years or more of industrial process experience or military equivalent experience

  • Ability to work outside normal working hours when required

  • Experience developing standardized operational procedures for industrial processes

  • Experience building the knowledge & skills of team members


 

What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s or Technical Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical

  • Five (5) or more years of process manufacturing experience

  • Three (3) or more years of leadership experience in a union environment

  • Greenbelt Six Sigma Certification
