JOB SUMMARY:

Provides technical support for the Agronomic, Horticultural, Forestry and Wildlife programs at Sandhill REC. Assists in conducting, harvesting and maintaining research and Extension plots by following established protocols. Assists with growing and maintaining agronomic, horticultural and forage plots. Maintains research equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

50% - Essential - Assists farm manager, scientists and other professionals in establishing field research experiments and Extension demonstration sites. Plants, applies fertilizer and pesticides, cultivates and harvests crops. Operates large land preparation such as discs, bedders, planters and harvester and also small plot equipment for specialized research.

30% - Essential - Collects samples and performs data entry. Assists with maintaining accurate production records and data onresearchandextensionplots.Assistswithirrigationsystemapplicationandmaintenance. Assists with greenhouse operations, research and demonstrations.

15% - Essential - Maintains and calibrates equipment to ensure that it is in good operating condition. Keeps work areas clean, safe and productive. Maintains greenhouse/lab space and equipment. Assists building/grounds manager in maintaining greenhouse/lab space and equipment, maintaining field areas, rights of ways on site.

5% - Essential - Trains interns, visitor, undergraduates and graduate students in field techniques and field safety. Assists with presentations, demonstrations, field days and workshops.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Bachelor's Degree - In an agriculture or forestry related field. Work experience in a related field may be substituted for a bacherlor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

Work experience directly related to assigned research area

Must be capable of obtaining a category 10 pesticide license in the first year. Must have a valid driver's license.
