We are currently hiring a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt to join our Energy and Power Technologies division In this position you will work directly with the Business Innovation team and process owners to improve processes. Black Belts must be able to communicate effectively in their roles as trainers, coaches, and mentors. During the course of a working day, Black Belts will find themselves communicating to employees at all levels of the organization and must be able to speak the language of front-line workers, as well as C-level executives. Our new team member possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to clarify complex requirements for a wide range of customers. Our ideal candidate will have 2+ years of experience in either manufacturing and/or Software Development and Process Improvement.

Additionally, you will be responsible for developing, advocating, and enabling the tools and methodologies to drive Underwriters Laboratories (UL) process excellence. These tools may include, but are not limited to Six Sigma, Lean, project management, and other improvement techniques.

  • Leads Lean Sigma projects/kaizens as assigned. Mentors Lean Sigma projects/kaizens across the division, identifies and works to remove barriers that slow or prevent the successful completion of a Lean Sigma project/kaizens.
  • Masters all technical skills associated with Six Sigma, Lean, and other appropriate improvement techniques.
  • Develops and shares new tools and techniques to further the advancement of Lean Sigma.
  • Advocates and influences appropriate change and quality needs across the division, including project selection.
  • Enables quality efforts to be felt by both UL's employees and our customers.
  • Applies Lean Sigma DMAIC (Define Measure Analyze Improve and Control) principles.
  • Attends and assesses project/kaizen review sessions.
  • Drives process excellence, visibility and awareness across the businesses.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested.
  • Develop relationships within the black belt community to share best practices and coordinate activities across the various business units.
  • Excellent project management skills.


  • University Degree in Business, Engineering or Related Technical Discipline.
  • Two years of experience in leading Lean Sigma projects/kaizens .
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification.
  • Experience with DMAIC and/or DMADV methodologies.
  • Experience with programming BOTS desired.
