thyssenkrupp Elevator Americas is currently seeking an experienced Technician III - Quality Control in Memphis, TN.

This role is responsible for leading daily collaboration with the cross functional teams (SQDC) to address quality issues by collecting and analyzing data, performing tests, inspections, audits and root cause analysis.

Essential duties and responsibilities:


  • Leads the material review board (MRB) meetings in the assigned areas for proper disposition of non-conforming parts

  • Fills out rejection notices, defective material reports or other quality forms as required, enters the information into the database and drives improvement

  • Performs and documents timely and accurate containment activities including sorting of non-conforming parts, clear identification of product, etc

  • Contacts suppliers where necessary to communicate defective material, associated findings, status of containment and subsequent shipments

  • Keeps accurate records of test and inspection results, printed log sheets or data entry screen on a computer or a mainframe terminal and drives improvement

  • Verifies quality of materials/products to support production, new product development, and process deviation processes. Acts as a liaison with the supplier, bridging the communication, defining containment, product ID, etc.

  • Acts as the subject matter expert relating to quality for the assigned receiving area/ commodities

  • Analyzes field failures, data and quality concerns to address trends in the responsible functional area

  • Supports Operating rhythms by collecting data, investigating and resolving issues

  • Performs process & product audits, creates and follows standard work

  • Supports the corrective action process by leading the root cause analysis efforts

  • Sets up and conducts various tests and experiments as assigned and records details of results using experiment description and layout document per guidelines

  • Calibrates and repairs various measuring devices as required including calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, hardness testers, etc

  • Measures various parts using a variety of tools including micrometers, calipers, optical comparator, voltmeter, hardness tester, tensile tester and other assorted hand tools

  • Sets up sampling plans, understands differences between AQL, C=0 and other methodology for product sampling

  • Performs Measurement System Analysis and Gage R&R

  • Sets up and maintains inspection procedures and equipment

  • Extracts data from various systems for business reporting purposes and recommends improvement opportunities, has the ability to implement improvements by working cross functionally to drive forward progress and continuous improvement

  • Files and maintains records of compliance to Engineering specifications.

  • Provides training and mentorship to technicians I and II

  • Participates in internal audits and leads as needed

  • Participates in continuous improvement projects and leads as needed.

  • Maintains lab equipment and measuring devices to ensure their proper working order

  • Completes appropriate forms, enters data into database, modifies inspection instructions as needed and prepares reports summarizing activities in these areas

  • Supports the corrective action process for the assigned production areas

  • Follows 6S principles while performing essential job functions

  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • High School Diploma and/or Technical School Diploma required

  • CQA Certification or Six Sigma Green Belt required

  • Associate's Degree in Engineering or Quality Control a plus

  • Five to ten years of experience in machine operation within a manufacturing department preferred

  • Five to ten years of experience in a warehouse/ receiving inspection environment required

  • Five to ten years of experience in the field of quality required

  • Strong mechanical and/or electrical aptitude required

  • Business acumen and ability to present and communicate professionally with suppliers and customers

  • Strong problem-solving tool belt with at least five years' experience applying root cause analysis tools in a manufacturing environment required

  • Strong understanding of the metal working process required

  • Strong print reading ability required

  • Strong experience with inspection equipment, statistical process control and working knowledge of computer capabilities required

  • Strong understanding of lean material systems or lean production systems required

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within the facility and across the organization

  • Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to understand complex written and/or verbal instructions

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access and Outlook) required

  • Advanced equipment usage ie; CMM operation/programming capability preferred
