Job Description:

The E.W. Scripps Company is currently looking for a dynamic, high energy, experienced and creative Digital Executive Producer (EP) to join our team at WLEX in Lexington, KY.  Qualified applicants must be innovators who know how to manage and write for digital and broadcast platforms, who are proficient in AP style, and who can manage social media accounts.   • Oversee all content on local news and information web sites, apps, and social media platforms

  • Supervise daily work of digital content producers

  • Work in conjunction with news management to coordinate the daily news operations for websites and other digital platforms

  • Daily monitoring of digital analytics to assess user experience, site stickiness and engagement

  • Address issues and evolve the site's tactical execution plan to grow digital audiences, traffic and engagement

  • Produce site content to optimize user experience by being attentive to live web metrics and UX best practices

  • Enhance news content with outside links, maps and slideshows

  • Work with news management to set up processes and systems for the migration of multi-media content to digital platforms, including video, audio, still photos and graphics

  • Set news and digital staff expectations and hold teams accountable for meeting goals

  • Plan online coverage of major news events, breaking news and severe weather to ensure high quality, consistent community coverage online

  • Conceive of and supervise the creation of special sections and site features to enhance coverage and increase user engagement

  • With the editorial direction of the Director of Digital and News Director, manage user-generated content

  • Responsible for content plans for niche sites, sales-oriented micro sites and any other related business

  • Work closely with other station departments, including sales and marketing, as needed on site and with station initiatives that require content integration

  • Perform other duties as needed and directed


  • BS/BA in related discipline required

  • 3 plus years’ experience producing, managing and showcasing online content required

  • Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced newsroom environment required


  • Ability to serve and contribute as a member of the newsroom management team

  • Ability to communicate clearly and be a champion for digital media initiatives

  • Must understand basic journalism legal principles

  • Must be able to multitask, meet deadlines and work under pressure

  • People and project leadership/management experience strongly preferred

  • Working knowledge of online content-management systems

  • Experience working with online metrics and analytics

  • Working knowledge of digital design and content tools/systems such as HTML, JavaScript, Adobe Photoshop, Apple Final Cut Pro X and FTP programs preferred
