Job Description:


Reporting to the Manager of Applications, the Epic Application Specialist will be dedicated to supporting our Epic Ambulatory Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, as a member of an Applications Team supporting 40+ software applications, in a Community Health Center affiliated with Boston Medical Center, Boston University School of Medicine and 14 urban community health centers in the Boston HealthNet.


Customer Support

  • Provide on-site support to clinical, operations and patient care teams as a member of the Applications Team, with primarily responsibility for Epic Ambulatory EMR

  • Assist with Lab, Dental or Ancillary systems as needed

  • Troubleshoot reported problems and equipment issues as they occur, owning the problem and seeing it through to full resolution

  • Refer issues that require additional assistance to the IT/Help Desk and/or Vendor Help Desk

  • Manage the requestor’s expectations until the request is satisfied

  • Communicate resolution to the user when completed

  • Demonstrate exemplary courtesy, respect, professionalism, communications skills and teamwork

  • Become recognized a resource that anyone in the Team or in the clinic is comfortable asking for help


Epic EMR

  • Assist with member-managed system configuration such as Provider Master File, EMP security, Templates, Preference lists, SmartTools

  • Manage Error Pools such as eRx, Lab results

  • Understand current and future departmental and staff workflows and support staff when implementing new workflows to support new Epic features or improve efficiency

  • Understand the role of Lab and Dental HL7 interfaces and perform basic interface troubleshooting

  • Attend presentations of new features in upcoming releases

  • Attend departmental clinic meetings


  • Assist with Orchard Harvest Lab Information system maintenance and upgrades


  • Assist with Dentrix/Dexis system maintenance and upgrades

Ancillary Systems

  • Working with Department manager, provide Systems Administrator and Vendor support for systems such as  Azara reporting, Cisco VOIP, ClientTell, Crystal Reports, OneApp Pro, Scala Digital Signage, Survey Monkey, Internal and External Web Site, Social Solutions, Hyland Systems Document Management, Twitter, Facebook, SquareSpace, Pinterest


  • Demonstrate exemplary teaching techniques providing introductory training for new hires, and preparing staff for new features and upgrades

  • Maintain Job Aids

Project Management

  • Familiar with Project Management principles


Bachelor’s Degree required.


  •  3 Years’ experience supporting Epic Electronic Medical Record (EMR)


  • Epic Certification

Software/Hardware: Must be proficient and have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
