Job Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The entry level Research Assistant (RA1) will support the Measuring Outcomes in Orthopedics (MOOR) research study. The focus of this project is to identify, develop and refine measures for the Medicare Quality Payment Program that will meaningfully impact patient care by minimizing burden on clinicians, improving outcomes for patients, and driving high-quality care. The RA will participate in the information gathering, measure conceptualization and specification, and testing activities relating to development of Patient Reported Outcome Performance Measures (PRO-PMs). A candidate with a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills is required to provide support for queries from the stakeholders and participants. The RA will need excellent attention to detail and critical thinking skills, as well as a high level of proficiency in data analysis in a clinical environment.

Principal duties may vary depending on the phases of the project (information gathering, data collection, analysis, etc). The RA will support all activities associated with the execution of the research plan including Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions, regular progress reports to the sponsor organization, and organizing communication with participants and project staff. The RA will use REDCap, MS Access and Excel to assist with data collection and analysis. The RA's responsibilities will also include administrative tasks and literature searches. Travel to Partners' affiliated sites is involved.

The Division of General Internal Medicine and Primary Care (DGIM) hosts a Research Day, an annual forum for RAs to showcase their contributions via oral and poster presentations and promote professional development through a career panel discussion.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Collaborate with domain experts to help oversee a broad based environmental scan for PRO-PM measure conceptualization: includes literature review, interviews, assessment of regulatory and economic environment, stakeholder needs and capabilities, clinical practice guidelines, existing and related measures, quality of evidence, etc.

-Work with the data management team to develop necessary infrastructure, manage data, and support PRO-PM measure development, testing and refinement.

-Assist with PRO-PM measure conceptualization, development, testing and refinement.

-Utilize MS Access and Excel to assist in data collection efforts, database development, and descriptive data analysis.

-Work closely with investigators and staff at BWH, Partners HealthCare System and the other participating institutions.

-Assist with data abstraction from a variety of sources including patient medical records, hospital clinical information systems, and stakeholder transcripts.

-Utilize REDCap, MS Access and Excel to assist in survey development, data collection efforts, database development, and descriptive data analysis. (In-house REDCap and MS Access training is available.)

-Assist with preparation of Institutional Review Board (IRB) documentation and forms for study protocol approvals and amendments.

-Perform general topic searches and specialized literature database searches. Retrieve journal articles from the Internet or library. Maintain a bibliographic library of supporting material.

Help with the preparation of talks and presentation materials including PowerPoint slides, tables, and graphs.

-Assist with the preparation of formal research reports and manuscripts for publication in professional journals and presentation at national/international conferences.

-Photocopying, electronic mailing, sending mail, faxing, documenting project work, and other administrative duties as required.

* Bachelors Degree and an interest in healthcare and the use of technology to support clinical care.

* Familiarity with End Note preferred.

* Familiarity with REDCap preferred

* Competency in REDCap and Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access preferred.

* Ability to use the medical bibliographic retrieval program such as End Note helpful.
