The Vascular Interventional Radiology department at the University of Miami has an exciting opprotunity for an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). The Nurse Practitioner will function as an integral part of the Interventional Radiology team with specific roles of patient care and educating patients and their families. Pre study assessment & post study follow-up for interventional patients. Pre-assessment and assessment of interventional radiology patients undergoing imaging studies with IV contrast as required. Assists attending interventional radiologists with vascular interventional procedures Performs minimally invasive procedures per established hospital competencies and in collaboration with interventional radiology attending physicians. Additionally, the APRN will participate as an adjunct to the nursing staff and in quality improvement activities, discharge planning, and coordination of patient care among caregivers and with in the interventional radiology arena. Observes and follows adopted standards, policies, directives and orders of the UMH/UMHC/UMMG as they may relate to the ARNP, and fall within the scope of practice for the APRN. Preceptor: Demonstrates ability to serve as a preceptor when assigned, including introducing new Nurse Practitioners to the service area, communicating and reinforcing core and job specific expectations, validating initial competency, assessing learning needs, serving as a resource and providing feedback. Makes decisions considering the impact of the decision on other areas. Conducts & documents pre IV iodinated contrast assessments on interventional patients undergoing or schedules for an interventional procedure as needed. Obtains procedural history for the routine adult patient. Identifies patient/chart and obtains data such as age, sex, and allergies/reactions. Utilizes interpreter services as indicated. Responds to medical emergencies and contrast reactions in the Interventional radiology Department and provides appropriate follow-up
Reviews/updates Interventional Radiology Medication Summary List and cross-references with existing Medication Summary List in CaneCare. Obtains abbreviated system based on APRN focused screening history: Cardiovascular System, Endocrine system, Gastrointestinal System, Pulmonary System, Renal system, and Musculoskeletal system. Obtains history of previous appropriate surgeries/hospital stays and medical history. Obtains social history. Obtains list of current medications. Obtains history of bleeding problems & previous blood transfusion/reactions. Obtains patient/family related anesthesia history. Conducts a physical assessment for the routine adult patient. Obtains weight & height. Obtains vital signs including pulse oximetry as needed. Conducts physical assessment including:
Abbreviated appropriate physical assessment
Masters Degree as an Advanced Practice Nurse
Current licensure to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Florida.
Must have national certification in Nurse practitioner specialty track
Must be credentialed to practice by Hospital Medical Board.
BLS / ALCS certified
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One year APRN experience required, preferably in Radiology, Critical Care, Emergency Department, Peri-Anesthesia or Acute Care, At least 4 year's RN clinical experience preferred.
