Senior Manager, Supply Chain


The Senior Manager, Supply Chain, leads the supply chain planning, scheduling, and execution of activities in preparation for approval and launch of the company’s first commercial product. This position works closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory and Senior Leadership in planning the on-time execution of product commercialization plans, contract negotiations, and communicates product/supply chain status and issues to ensure timely decision-making by Senior Management.

The role's scope includes upstream material suppliers, contract manufacturing and packaging partners, distribution partners, and logistics/transportation service providers. The successful candidate will have experience in drug substance and drug product planning and inventory management. Expertise should also include contract and purchase order management, establishing and monitoring performance metrics, and driving performance improvement. Responsible for providing leadership for strategic and tactical supply chain initiatives.


Demand and Supply Planning:

  • Lead the development of short and long-term demand and supply plans for meeting commercial and clinical demand and integrate into the Sales & Operations Planning process

  • Lead the development of models, tools, and reports to enable efficient tracking and assessment of internal and external capacity/capability, demand, supply, and inventory levels from API to finished goods

  • Proactively identify operational supply/expiry risks and lead the cross-functional collaboration with Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain partners to resolve issues effectively

  • Develop and maintain network supply plans for Drug Substance, Drug Product and Finished Goods

CMO Management:

  • Manage the supply chain aspects of GMP manufacturing at Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMO), including contracts, purchase orders, production planning, and overall performance. In conjunction with the internal operations team, identify potential supply risks due to labor and material shortages, backlogs, and other possible schedule interruptions and provide visibility to Senior Management

  • Manage day-to-day supply-related activities with all supply chain partners (CMO’s, Commercial Packaging Organizations (CPO) including placing of purchase orders, material transactions/movements, and logistics

  • Review accuracy of invoices from CMO’s and external supply chain partners against contracts/service agreements and actual deliveries

Inventory Management and Logistics

  • Establish safety stock and inventory targets and conduct monthly inventory reviews in collaboration with Finance to analyze financial impacts

  • Manage all import/export, brokerage, storage, and transportation for vital raw materials, drug substance, drug product, and finished goods

Supply Chain Performance:

  • Monitor supply plan execution, forecast accuracy, inventory levels, and remaining shelf-life

  • Establish and measure critical metrics for supply chain performance for both external supply chain partners and internal functions

  • Ensure the accuracy of supply chain data in ERP and Serialization systems

  • Monitor adherence to agreed-upon lead-times in supply agreements and lead efforts to close performance gaps

  • Oversee design, development, and implementation of cost savings and cost reduction projects driven by supply chain innovation and improvements

  • Develop and maintain the cost of goods sold estimates and projections

  • Review departmental SOP’s and ensure updates and compliance with industry standards


  • BS/BA with a concentration in Business, Operations Management, or Engineering related degree. MBA or other advanced degree preferred

  • 5 – 7 years of business experience with a demonstrated knowledge of Supply Chain concepts and Best Demonstrated Practices. A minimum of 5 years in the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, or biotechnology field with specific experience in Demand Planning, Supply Planning, and Inventory Management

  • Advance knowledge and experience with implementing and optimizing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems including Master Production Scheduling (MPS), Material Resource Planning (MRP), and Master Data Maintenance

  • Lean/Six Sigma training and subsequent experience leading continuous improvement initiatives that increase productivity, improve quality, deliver results

  • Demonstrated leadership in developing a culture of Operational Excellence through the development of metrics, change management strategies, and a commitment and a strong focus on the values of the organization


  • Must have the ability to work independently and also be an influential team member in a fast-paced, team-oriented, dynamic environment

  • Advanced problem-solving skills including analytical and critical thinking abilities as well as business and financial analysis

  • Working knowledge of FDA and EMA regulations, as well as cGMP and ICH guidelines applicable to the development and production of investigational and commercial drug products

  • Strong cross-functional leadership, communication, and project management skills

  • Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion to meet schedules and deadlines

  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, Word)


  • Flexibility in work schedule as required to meet business requirements
