Structural Engineer Intern - Boston at Transystems Corp in Boston, Massachusetts

Services are delivered throughout the asset life cycle, from concept to construction to long-term operations, maintenance and rehabilitation.

TranSystems’ Boston offices seeks a Structural Engineer Intern to join our growing office of Structural/Bridge team as an entry level engineer.  This person will be a member of our Bridge division. The individual may also be called on to work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects.  The engineer will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects in a unique and dynamic work environment. 

Basic Qualifications:

Currently and actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.

 Preferred Qualifications:


  • Motivated and hard working with a inner desire to increase their knowledge in civil engineering.


  • Previous internship experience in roadway, bridge, drainage, construction inspection and/or lighting 

  • Experience with Illinois State Toll Highway Authority, Illinois DOT, Chicago DOT, local municipalities, Metra, Class I railroads, or on other Federally-funded projects

  • Geopak and/or Microstation working knowledge

  • No relocation or stipend assistance

General Duties & Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.


  1. Analyzes information and data to perform routine design tasks.

  2. Receives instructions from Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers as to the general results expected.

  3. Research design options and document findings.

  4. Responsible as a member of the design them for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.

  5. Researches code requirements.

  6. Prepares environmental impact and other administrative reports required for project permits.

  7. Keeps Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.

  8. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  9. Assist or participate in preparation of business proposals.

  10. May be asked to participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection and materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a car. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
