Director, Shipper Operations at DAT in Denver, Colorado

Job Description:

DAT Freight & Analytics is looking for a Director of Shipper Operations to join our Strategy Execution team in Denver, CO.

We’re looking for an experienced leader with a proven ability to build a cross-functional team that generates results.  DAT’s recent acquisition of the Freight Market Intelligence Consortium combined the two largest freight databases, and the highly capable team from FMIC has continued their rapid growth in the shipper customer segment. DAT is organized by function, with “dotted line” relationships to leaders of each product segment, including the Director of Shipper Operations. In this role, you will lead the shipper-facing team at DAT through “dotted line” reporting lines to each function and shape the path of freight and analytics through the ongoing digital transformation.

The Director of Shipper Operations will be an influential part of the Senior Leadership Team and will report directly to the Vice President of Strategy Execution.

Candidate Profile

• Deep knowledge of the customer: transportation/logistics teams across the North American shipper market, including insights about industry verticals, internal purchasing process/approval, and specific use cases for data and analytics.


• Strong ownership mindset with a drive to work cross functionally to generate sustained revenue growth through DAT’s largest and least-developed customer segment.


• Product-orientation, experienced in driving overall planning, managing development/ engineering timelines, co-creating go-to-market approach, supporting sales strategy, and refining features based on customer feedback.


• Strategic vision to guide short and long-term decisions around DAT’s positioning with shippers, brokers, and carriers.

What You’ll Do

• Set the tone for DAT’s Shipper Team with regards to customers, competition, talent, etc. despite primary reporting relationships aligned to functions.


• Contribute to DAT revenue and margin growth by expanding share of wallet with existing customers, new customers for existing products, and new customers with new products.


• Closely collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization to “quarterback” DAT’s presence in the shipper segment, coordinating across Strategy, Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, etc.


• Aggressively drive down cycle times for product refinement and sales conversions as the number and types of shipper customers expands significantly.


• Provide the feedback loop to DAT strategy development, bringing the lens of the shipper segment.


• Own the shipper revenue and targets, evaluated on YoY growth.

The Skills and Experience You’ll Need

• 10 years demonstrated experience in transportation/logistics generally, and shipper organizations specifically, that result in top line success.


• Successful track record of driving new revenue streams.


• Adept at working across organizations and influencing other stakeholders.


• Demonstrated experience keeping abreast of emerging industry trends, new business models, and technological advances.


• Management throughout the entirety of the project lifecycle.


• Experience leading and developing strong teams.


• Global experience and knowledge of large shippers’ international supply chain is a plus.


• Experience with digital trends in freight tech, to include digital freight matching, is a plus.


• Relevant Bachelor's Degree required.


• Master's Degree highly preferred.
