In accordance with the Nursing Standards of Care and within the guidelines of both Maine Medical Center Policies and Procedures and the Maine State Board of Nursing, the Licensed Practical Nurse, under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse, performs selected, direct, technical aspects of patient care. The Licensed Practical Nurse makes and reports observations concerning the patient's condition and reinforces patient education in order to meet the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patient and family. They are able to work in a variety of patient care settings such as Med-Surg, OB, Pediatrics, Psych and clinics.

* Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

* Education: N/A

* License/Certifications: BLS certified. Annual IV certification. Must pass a licensing examination after completing a State-approved practical nursing program.

* Experience: N/A

* Complete a Departmental CBO tool at the time of hire demonstrating competencies in designated unit tasks.

* All clinical competencies.

* Must pass a course allowing them to function as a Category II in IV therapy prior to employment or shortly after.
