Job Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY (What is done and why)

As a System Engineer you will be focused on building out new technologies to transform the business. You will work closely with other teams in IT, Security, and across to business to develop and implement these systems. In addition, you will also support existing systems and infrastructure as needed including upgrading existing platforms, and providing engineering level support.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, IN PRIORITY ORDER (Majority of duties, but not meant to be all inclusive or prevent other duties from being assigned as necessary)


  1. Serve on technical projects managing time human and technical resources. 10%

  2. Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and support physical, virtual, and cloud- based systems, servers, applications, and WAN / LAN technologies.  45%

  3. Participate on cross-functional teams as assigned.  10%

  4. Align projects, decisions, and daily work with the Credit Union’s Strategic Plan. Stay current with advances in technology through training, research and analysis, and provide technology recommendations, complete with Engineering Assessments and relevant supporting documentation.  5%

  5. Serve in an advisory capacity by participating in IT and business strategic and tactical planning, and budget recommendations.  5%

  6. Work across teams to develop and grow integration efforts between the Information Technology department and other Business Units, including equipment, resources and services.  5%

  7. Implement and maintain industry regulations and IT frameworks to improve the security posture and service management of the Credit Union.  5%

  8. Contribute to the Business Continuity Plan for Network and Infrastructure functions related to developing, recommending, maintaining, and regularly testing the IT Disaster Recovery Plan.  5%

  9. Assist in developing and writing standard operating procedures. 5%

  10. Identify opportunities to streamline existing processes and develop procedures to implement improvements. 5%

EDUCATION (Minimum education required to perform the duties of this position) 


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or 2-3 years of related work experience required.  

EXPERIENCE (Minimum experience required to perform the duties of this position) 


  • Three or more years of experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting server, networking, or UC environments required. 

  • One advanced certification (MCSA, MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, Microsoft Azure Administrator, AWS Solution Architect, etc.) is preferred. 

  • Relevant and practical experience with supporting a mid to large organization with the following technologies: VMWare (Server and Desktop Virtualization), Dell Technologies (Storage and Compute), Microsoft Server Technologies (AD, DNS, DHCP), Office 365, Azure, Cisco Networking Technologies, Cisco Unified Communications. 

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (Minimum technical and communication skill levels and licenses/certificates normally required to perform the duties of this position) 


  • Demonstrated strong and deep skill set in one competency.

  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, etc) for automating administrative and routine tasks is preferred.  

  • Demonstrated knowledge of network protocols and services. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of networking equipment and technologies 

  • Preferred Automation, configuration experience (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Jenkins, Terraform) 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft administration in a hybrid environment.   

  • Demonstrated communication skills and an effective, positive approach to staff relationships. The ability to forge strong working partnerships within the organization as well as with strategic partners and vendors.  

  • Possess a high degree of technical expertise in the software and hardware facilities commonly used in the organization.  

  • Ability to take ownership of difficult technology problems, organizes appropriate logic-based resolutions paths, and ensures full resolution including customer satisfaction.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS (Physical effort generally associated with this position)  

Work involves standing and walking for brief periods of time, but most work is done from a seated position. There is potential for eyestrain from prolonged work at the computer. Individual must be able to travel to complete applicable assignments, projects and training. Deadlines, workloads and pressure to achieve goals may cause increased stress levels. Occasionally may be required to lift 50-100 pounds.  

Individual must be capable of maneuvering under and around office furniture.  

WORKING CONDITIONS (Typical working conditions associated with this type of work and environmental hazards, if any, that may be encountered in performing the duties of this position)  

Internal- Work is normally performed in climate-controlled office environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of normal office equipment (computers, telephones, etc). No known environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of duties. Length of day is unpredictable; long hours may be required to accommodate deadlines or special meetings. Required to carry a cell phone and respond to urgent work-related calls during and outside of normal business hours.  

External- Some travel is required; however, information on environmental conditions is not available.
