Business Development Manager - Agri

 

Reports to  :  Global Business Development

Location     :  Waukegan, IL

 

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving profitable and sustainable growth within AG SSG strategic industries and associated product lines through both direct and indirect sales support while also developing, communicating and coordinating the execution of the respective AG industry ongoing strategic plan measured by total strategic industry revenue and profit growth (constructed P&L).  The Business Development Manager is responsible for strengthening the company’s pipeline of new business opportunities, partnering with field sales to close business deals, defining both short and long-term strategic goals, completing market analyses, monitoring and reporting the region’s AG sub-industry sales and associated product line’s key financials along with managing SSG’s relationship with pertinent trade organizations. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Cascading and geographical mapping of key opportunities within assigned region; make initial customer contact as needed

  • Strong knowledge of regions OE/DD customers, machines made, competitors/solutions and market positioning/prices, crops grown along with market forecast and industry news

  • Lead in identifying future industry trends. Includes anything related to Smart Farming and Condition Monitoring

  • Field Sales partnering, training and mentoring; team selling for select opportunities

  • Drive pipeline of projects that will lead to sustainable, profitable growth

  • Enhance key customer relationships that ultimately lead to business growth

  • Project lead for select opportunities where significant coordination with PM and DE is required

  • Support and participate in industry trade shows; manage relationships with the “right” trade associations

  • Develop, communicate and coordinate the execution of the industry’s ongoing strategic plan (Price, Place, Product, Promotion)

  • Understand and communicate to Sales, Competency Centers and Global Marketing Team, the industry’s trends, market needs competitive landscape

  • Develop and publish the regions “Playbook”; drive development of other supporting sales collateral in conjunction with PM’s

  • Primary voice of the customer in supporting PM’s in new product development and current product line improvement.

  • Monitor and report the regions AG sub-industry and associated product line’s key metrics to include historical, current and forecasted revenue, sales pipeline, pricing and margin performance as well as new business/key customer impact; develop corrective action plans as necessary in order to deliver business plan

  • Act as a leader; set professional example within the company

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS


  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Business Development, Application/Sales Engineering, or Sales Management for an industrial products company (5 years + preferred)

  • Demonstrate successful strategic planning experience

  • Demonstrate success in leading teams

  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority

  • Proven ability to develop positive and lasting rapport with both internal and external customers

  • Strong presentation, sales and negotiation skills

  • Demonstrate success in mentoring and developing people

  • Driven for success and has a passion for winning

  • Flourishes in a culture of openness, collaboration, and teamwork

  • Bachelor's degree (MBA preferred)

  • Technical background (Mechanical Engineering experience a plus)

  • Understanding of basic financial/accounting practices

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be able to travel 30% - 40% within given region

  • Proven track record of success and growth within an industrial company
