Department: Phlebotomy and Reception

Hours: 2:00p - 10:30p

In this role, you will provide supervision for daily operations of assigned laboratory section (i.e. Histology, Phlebotomy, Central Processing, and Transfusion Support & Services). Ensure optimal daily flow and allocation of resources to meet demand for services with available staff. Address technical or service problems as necessary.

• Ensure smooth flow of assigned laboratory section(s) operations by directing the work of laboratory staff.


• Develop, modify, implement and evaluate operational processes for the section. Assign and change priorities within the work unit as needed. Act as a resource to staff for daily operational needs.


• Recruit, hire, train, discipline and supervise staff including completion of performance evaluations and competency assessments. Maintain and update staff procedure manuals, staff training programs and quality assurance programs.


• Ensure compliance with state, federal and regulatory agency requirements for facilities, equipment, processes and staff. Ensure a safe working environment for staff and patients.


• Assist manager with budget development and management. Assure cost-effective daily operations and allocation of section resources to optimize available staff and equipment with demand for service.


• Participate in quality improvement projects focused on achievement of annual goals and lean initiatives; ensures implementation of and adherence to improvement changes


• Participate as a contributing member of section(s), department and VM-wide management team


• Act as a contributing member of laboratory team as needed to facilitate delivery of service

Qualifications:

This position requires an Associate's degree and three years laboratory operations experience including one or more years progressively responsible laboratory operations experience. A Bachelor's degree is preferred. Demonstrated ability to prioritize the demands of daily operations and organize resources required. Also requires demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, active listening skills and conflict mediation ability. Demonstrated ability to facilitate change and build effective teams also required.
