Job Summary
Under general direction, this position repairs, diagnoses, services, and maintains fleet automobiles, trucks, heavy equipment (including backhoe, front end loader, skid steer, etc.), small engine equipment (including weed trimmers, chainsaws, zero turn mowers, etc.) and other vehicles.
Essential Functions

1. Coordinates, plans, prioritizes, and completes repair work for Public Works to minimize equipment downtime.
2. Performs routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups.
3. Review work orders and discuss work with supervisors.
4. Examines vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunctions.
5. Services and repairs engines in automobiles, trucks, heavy trucks, small, and large equipment.
6. Replaces and/ or adjusts headlights, tail lights, marker lights, etc.
7. Installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and emergency lighting.
8. Repairs electrical automotive equipment such as installing batteries, terminals, lights, starters, alternators, etc.
9. Follows checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas.
10. Maintains cleanliness of work area.
11. Repairs, relines, replaces, and adjusts brakes.
12. Tests and adjusts repaired systems to meet manufacturers' performance specifications.
13. Plans work procedures, using charts, technical manuals, and experience.
14. Disassembles units and inspects parts for wear, using micrometers, callipers, and gauges.
15. Repairs or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, bearings, hydraulics cylinders, etc.
16. Repairs and/ or rewires ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels.
17. Performs regular maintenance and minor repairs to manual and automatics transmissions.
18. Repairs or replaces suspension components, shock absorbers, etc.
19. Overhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps.
20. Other duties as assigned.
