Position Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for supervision of all activities involving procurement of material, equipment and supplies as required for company engineering, production, and maintenance operations. Work within the guidelines of Corporate purchasing procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for implementation and oversight of a method of selecting suppliers, domestic and international, capable of supporting division-wide objectives of On-Time Performance, Conformance to Requirements, Lead-time Reduction, Service and Cost Competitiveness.

Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing and other internal customers to determine production requirements and to discuss availability of components, subcontract capabilities, abilities of suppliers, and cost-reduction ideas.

Utilize Material Resource Planning reports to plan requirements and make purchases based on these requirements. Identify suppliers and obtains price quotations and specifications. Prepare and place purchase orders as required for raw materials, supplies, services, and materials.

Have direct interface with suppliers to evaluate and communicate problems with performance indicators. Work with supplier’s continuous improvement programs to increase on time performance and reduce lead time and cost. Develop alternate sources of supply when necessary for regularly purchased material or critical items.

Set internal goals for department to augment and support divisional goals.

Maintain records of suppliers’ performance and cost. Issue periodic and special reports both to vendors and other groups within division regarding supplier performance, market conditions, new innovations, etc. that may affect division. Prepare cost estimates and budgets for use with other departments.

Prepare yearly operating budget for approval by supervisor, follow progress and control costs.

Train and instruct employees on job responsibilities, company policies, rules, etc. Complies with all company rules, policies, and procedures. Complies with all safety regulations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct a staff of Buyers through the implementation of outlined supply strategies that support the company’s goals and objectives.

Position Requirements:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university is preferred. APICS certification is a definite plus. Five to seven years experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with a broad knowledge of materials, purchasing, production control methods, manufacturing methods and techniques.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Oracle knowledge/experience
Supply chain experience within the electric motor manufacturing industry
Technical knowledge with engineering prints relative to various commodities to include castings, machining, stamping, and electronic sub-assemblies.
Proven leadership skills and abilities.
Proven analytical and communications skills, written and verbal.
Must have a strong negotiating background with a proven track record of cost reductions.
Must be able to work effectively under high pressure and be a team player.
