TheLogistics Specialistwill plan, execute, and drive continuous improvement in logistics operations functions including truck, rail, intermodal, trans-loading, inventory management, and export for multiple US Milling facilities.

Essential Functions

• Responsible for assigned plants' domestic transportation planning and execution. Activities include: selecting, evaluating & negotiating rates with carriers, coordination with sales on customer needs, coordinate with production plants on product availability, plan and execute transportation, demurrage & accessorial cost management, develop & monitor KPIs, balancing plant loading capacities with schedules, etc.


• Responsible for 3rd party warehouse & trans-load facility planning, execution, and inventory reporting.


• Responsible for cross training on Rail operations to include: planning & execution, scheduling, coordination with Milling Rail Plants, documentation, accessorial charge management, and working with railroad operations and local plant operations to resolve service issues.


• Analyze and synthesize information from multiple data sources that identify opportunities and lead to business performance improvement.


• Optimize freight P&L, and minimize detention and demurrage costs


• Coordinate between sales, accounting, and transportation planners to resolve accrual and expense variances related to freight. Maintain freight payable account and reconcile discrepancies.


• Administer freight rate quotes to support administration, sales and supply chain teams


• Maintain a working knowledge of federal rules and regulations that apply to shippers and motor carriers in order to ensure compliance


• Act as power user to all supply chain systems and train field employees on system-related processes and procedures


• With all stakeholders, collaboratively develop processes and balanced scorecard KPIs aligned to Milling performance.


• In conjunction with Sales, Production, Supply Chain, etc., identify opportunities, propose strategies and participate/lead efforts to improve Business Unit performance such as: logistics/scheduling processes, customer service levels, production operations, transportation options & costs, 3rd party providers, Inventory levels, lead times, rail/truck fleet sizing & utilization, warehouse requirements, etc.


• Other Supply Chain duties as assigned

Skills/Experience/Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, or related discipline.


• Minimum of5 years of related experience


• Ability to communicate effectively


• Ability to multitask and work effectively under time constraints


• Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision


• Competency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point


• Experience in SAP or other ERP system, and experience with Rate or TMS systems are preferred


• Ability to travel up to 20%
