Job Summary:
We are currently seeking a Director of Benefits to join our Human Resources team. The Director of Benefits is responsible for the development, administration, and effective communication of MAPMG physician and staff benefit programs of over 2,000 employees. The Director of Benefits will manage the administration of health and welfare plans, retirement plans, defined benefit plans, and non-deferred compensation plans.
This position may temporarily begin 100% remotely and will eventually be based in our regional office in Rockville, Maryland with the ability to work remotely a few days a week.
Responsibilities:
Reviews and analyzes the benefits market trends, regulations, and practices, to recommend and develop competitive programs and services to meet MAPMG’s strategic physician and staff recruitment, wellness, and retention goals
Responsible for oversight of benefits programs, including recommending, implementation, support and compliance for new and existing employee benefits programs, including but not limited to plan selection, annual renewal process, contract negotiation, benchmarking
Evaluates and analyzes the results of the programs and services regularly and systematically; reports these results to the CHRO in addition to other management reporting
Plans and directs the implementation and administration of benefits programs designed to mitigate physicians and staff against loss of income due to illness, injury, or retirement
Plans the modification of existing benefits programs
Prepares and monitors department budget
Oversees a robust and effective communication plan for physicians and staff of benefits programs such as health insurance plans, pension plan, 401(k), disability insurance, life insurance and other special employer-sponsored plans
Manages the Medical Group’s health/welfare and retirement plans. Retirement plans include defined contribution, defined benefit and non-qualified (SERP) plans
Consults with ERISA counsel in the development and maintenance of up-to-date benefit program plan documents and summary plan descriptions
Manages the 401(k) audit and supports the corporate audit and defined benefit plan audits annually. Files timely 5500’s and completes all other required filings and notices (e.g., PCORI, SARS, SMMs)
Responsible for compliance with respect to all benefit programs. This includes, but is not limited to, Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), Affordable Care Act (ACA), Pension Protection Act (PPA), Internal Revenue Code, Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
Oversees:
The management of the physician and staff educational reimbursement system in accordance with board approved physician policies and staff policies
The FMLA leave management system
The management for annual open enrollment activities including, communications, and applicable reporting to vendors
Responsible for maintaining strong, collaborative vendor and TPA management and broker relationships to assess programs and market trends
Works with the HRMS team to provide oversight of benefit changes, updates and implementations and system testing to ensure consistency with plan documents
Partners with the Payroll team on any issues relating to benefits and compensation that require partnership to improve or resolve issues
Manages and oversees the hiring, training, professional development, and performance management of the Benefits department’s staff. Assists various MAPMG Board Committees regarding MAPMG’s benefit programs and benefit plan elements
Represents the medical group with the health plan’s environmental safety committee and its activities and requirements
Performs other duties as required
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field is required; Master’s Degree in related field highly preferred
Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive benefit and retirement (defined benefit and defined contribution) plans and non-qualified SERP plan administration
Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory responsibility managing at least three (3) full time employees
CEBS certification or equivalent is required
Proficiency and technical aptitude in the use of Microsoft Office products, Leave Management Systems and HRM systems, Ultimate Kronos Group, UKG strongly preferred
Thorough working knowledge of all federal, state, and local regulations and compliance requirements related to employee benefits
Strong project management experience required
