Summary:

As Senior Manager of Business Architecture you own the creation and evolution of governance policies, standards and processes for managing master data at Dexcom.

As a Customer Master Data Business Architect, you are a practitioner of business architecture and act as a bridge between business and technology, develop capability maps and other artifacts, help in the operationalization of strategy, and assist in the technology enablement of core capabilities and value streams. You will work alongside enterprise architects, business strategists, product (service) owners, and technologists to provide business architecture inputs to drive overall enterprise architecture and enterprise design.

You will collaborate with business and technical partners to drive and develop a data governance strategy at the enterprise level, initially for master data. You will effectively establish Data Governance Working Groups and ensure the teams are engaged and functioning efficiently This role reports initially to the Business Transformation and Operational Excellence team, but will most likely report to a different business function long-term.

Functional Description: Management

Leads people who perform project management duties involving cross-functional teams focused on delivery of internal products or administrative systems. Oversees plans and directs schedules as well as project budgets. Monitors programs/projects from initiation through delivery and interfacing with internal customers or department personnel. Organizes project activities and interdepartmental meetings; ensures communication facilitates completion of the program/project on schedule and within budget constraints. May assign and monitor work of technical personnel providing support and interpretation of instructions/objectives. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Use deep expertise in business architecture and customer master data management to lead the creation and management of data governance.

  • Craft business capability maps and define the capability attributes of customer master data management for the enterprise globally.

  • Abstract business flows and processes into higher level value streams and journey maps for end-to-end flows to realize a business outcome.

  • Conduct capability assessments including a future state maturity at a capability level.

  • Work with product owners, user groups, and business analysts to align requirements/backlog to capabilities.

  • Work with data architects to overlay the business information model to capabilities and systems.

  • Work with solution architects and technical architects to map systems and services to capabilities for footprint analysis of what systems/services support which capabilities.

  • Work with corporate and business strategy teams to assess the strategic plans' impact on various capabilities and document the maturity needs at a capability level.

  • Support teams in providing business architecture inputs and perspectives.

  • Develop various viewpoints, lenses, and mappings to show relationships, juxtaposition, linkages, overlaps, and footprints.


  • Obtain and evaluate information about industry and market trends, competitive threats and possible business opportunities. Guides discussions and contribute insight derived from knowledge and analysis of the industry and competitors.

  • Draft strategy papers and presentations to be made to the board or other key stakeholders in the company.

  • Drive strategic initiatives and support development of long-term growth and profitability goals.

  • Lead the development, deployment, and measurement of related transformative programs across most functions for Customer Master Data Management.

  • Train and develop collaborative, cross-functional working teams to achieve these objectives.

  • Set direction and provide frameworks through which operational objectives can be delivered.


  • Collaborate and drive change at every level & function in the organization.

  • Positively influence all levels of management to ensure that operational excellence activities receive the necessary support and are resourced sufficiently to implement solutions.

  • This position assumes and performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:


  • Understanding of the business, its products and services, and general business landscape.

  • Basic understanding of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats facing the business.

  • Competent presentation and interpersonal skills meeting the needs of all levels within the organization up to and including the executive management team.


  • Ability to demystify corporate and business strategy and operationalize to link execution to strategy.

  • Ability to abstract what the business does into a coherent and cohesive business capability model.


  • Ability to abstract business flows and processes into higher level value streams.

  • Collaboration skills to work with product/business owners, corporate/business strategists, and other architects (enterprise, data, solution, services, infrastructure, solution, and technical architects) to develop various views, viewpoints, lenses, mappings, assessments, and heat maps.

  • Communication skills to evangelize the discipline of business architecture up and down the corporate chain of command.

  • Persuasion skills to bring various teams to align the business capabilities.

  • Extensive data governance experience and expertise.

  • Ability to operate at a strategic level as well as drill down deep into details.

  • Thorough understanding of the concept to technology enablement lifecycle.

  • Ability to provide business architecture inputs at various levels.

  • Ability to lead or participate in cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to switch contexts and be comfortable with working with business, technology, operations, and architecture teams.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Life science or medical device industry experience preferred.

  • External Black Belt Six Sigma or Lean expert certification preferred.

Education and Experience Requirements:


  • BA/BS required.

  • Master's degree and/or Management Consulting experience a plus.

  • 13+ years of related business architecture experience with direct experience in Customer Master data Management.

  • 13+ years of experience successful leadership experience.

  • 5-8 years people leadership experience - direct and cross-functional.

  • 5-8 years project management experience.

Travel:

  • 0-25% potential

Management:


  • Manages activities of two or more sections or departments.

  • Directly manages the coordination of the activities within a function/department with responsibility for results.

  • In some instances may be responsible for a functional area or contracted / outsourced employees or matrixed reports and not have any direct reports within the organization.

  • People management responsibilities include hiring / terminations, performance reviews, career development coaching and compensation decisions.

Language Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
