Summary
The Corporate Sustainability & GHG Manager will be responsible for tracking and driving Ash Grove Cement’s progress towards meeting the company’s sustainability goals. This position will assist the plants in ensuring compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and adherence to company policy and procedures on a continuing basis.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Completes all annual internal reporting of CO2 emissions for all Ash Grove facilities
Responsible for updating and maintaining the individual CO2 roadmaps for each cement plant within Ash Grove by working with the plants as well as the Director of Environmental Affairs and Director of Process Engineering.
Works with CRH Global Technical Services (GTS) Environmental Manager to ensure Ash Grove’s goals align with the CRH strategic plan and principles.
Periodically report on the status of Ash Grove’s climate initiatives and recommends actions and activities to reduce GHG emissions both inside and outside our gates to senior management.
Responsible for calculating projected GHG emissions on a per plant, and company basis for various scenarios for Ash Grove senior management to make strategic decisions on projects / capital investments
Acts as advisor to each plant in the implementation of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program
Coordinates the CRH sustainability reporting (CR360) for the Ash Grove facilities on an annual basis
Monitors the changing regulatory landscape for climate related regulations and recommends strategy to Ash Grove Cement senior leadership.
Participates in the appropriate trade associations (PCA, AWB, OBI, etc) to represent Ash Grove’s interests from a technical perspective
Works with the Innovation task force to identify new technologies and assist with any grant proposals. Participates in the implementation of any pilot studies if implemented at a cement plant.
Assists with Alternative Fuel permitting at the state and local level
Assist VP of Commercial Excellence & Logistics with completing Life Cycle Inventories and Environmental Produce Declarations for identified products within Ash Grove
Assists plants with the preparation of GHG related Capex projects
Participates in GHG related meetings with plants or local environmental agencies
Provides support for compliance obligations in all media (air, water, waste) as directed by the Director of Environmental Affairs. Assists with internal compliance audits and records reviews.
Travel Requirement
Travel of up to 30% is possible, or more as dictated by current projects
Ability to travel internationally, if needed
Required Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Organization, written and oral communication, problem solving, decision making, and computer skills.
Ability to effectively coordinate and manage diverse activities simultaneously and develop cohesive work teams.
Must be able to perform complex evaluations independently in order to provide recommendation to management.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, physics, environmental science, engineering, or related degree required. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel and the ability to communicate clearly are essential.
Experience
At least ten (10) years of experience in a technical area with an emphasis on environmental compliance and sustainability planning is highly desirable, but not required. Experience with implementing US and Canadian environmental regulations is desirable.
