ODNR owns and manages state parks, state forests, state nature preserves and wildlife areas. We license all hunting, fishing and watercraft; oversee and permit all mineral extraction, monitor dam safety, manage water resources and serve as the second largest Law Enforcement presence in the State of Ohio.

We are accepting applications for two (2) intermittent 1,000 hour unclassified positions within the Division of
Parks & Watercraft, headquartered at Caesar Creek State Park, assigned to Warren county. The address is 8570 E.State Route 73, Waynesville, Ohio 45068. To learn more about Caesar Creek State Park please visit Caesar Creek State Park.  These positions are utilized during the division's typical busiest season which runs from April thru October.

Job duties:  Performs variety of support services for marina & retail operations: provides excellent customer service to park visitors & serves as contact person for marina (e.g., answers questions &/or gives directions in person, by telephone, via internet & by e-mail); maintain marina operations (e.g., receives money from dock rentals, boat rentals, fuel & resale merchandise); oversees dock lottery for dock at marina; maintain retail operations at marina (e.g., operates point of sale (POS) computer, cash register, calculator, & electronic data capture machine for credit card sales; makes change); prepares & serves food & beverages (e.g., cooks hot dogs, makes coffee, operates microwave); informs dock holders of dock policies & regulations; under supervision performs minor clerical duties (e.g., types schedules, memos & letters)l;  operates 2-way radio to communicate with park staff;  plans & prepares group recreation programs (e.g., trail hikes, assists Naturalist/Naturalist aide in naturalist programs & all other programs as needed); follows through on plans & preparations for group recreational activities; (e.g., sets up equipment, takes down equipment); records visitor complaints; aides in emergencies (e.g., calls for help, reports & assists in locating lost visitors (e.g., children); operates 2-way radio to communicate with park staff; informs marina staff of directives from supervisor.

Monitors recreation programs & activities in progress, (e.g., trail hikes, Visitor Center, all Naturalist Aide programs); maintains accurate records: processes checks & credit cards; balances daily receipts at end of shift; enters daily transactions into computer; writes bank deposit slips; makes copies; counts items during inventory; coordinates & assists with park retail operations under park manager supervision (e.g., contacts vendors for products for resale, inventories retail stock, maintains operation in a neat & orderly appearance); assists with weekly ordering for food service operation (e.g., writes order forms, counts delivered items).

Performs housekeeping duties in & around the marina (e.g., sweeps & mops floors, dusts, cleans tables, empties trash containers): cleans restrooms; picks up litter; weeds & waters landscaping; providing marina & park information & directions to visitors; records visitor complaints; aides in emergencies (e.g., calls for help, reports & assists in locating lost visitors (e.g., children); assists with special parks programs & events (e.g., sets up equipment, takes down equipment); drive state vehicle from area to area of the park, district, & state to perform job duties (e.g., pick up supplies, make bank deposits, attend meetings & training).

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works outside exposed to weather; may travel overnight.


This intermittent position:


  • is limited to 1000 hours in a fiscal year

  • will remain at step 1 of the pay range

  • is not eligible for benefits (e.g., vision, dental, life, health insurance, holiday pay, leave accruals (vacation, personal, sick), any other paid leave, shift differential, pay supplements, etc.)

  • serves in the unclassified service pursuant to ORC 124.11 (A)(29) and, as such, serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in public relation; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in use of recreation equipment; valid driver's license. -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
