Marketing Technical Writer

Overview

Owns creation, execution, and maintenance of technical documentation for Black Box's Product Business. Primarily focusing on original content, this role collaborates with various functions to understand, develop, and maintain all aspects of technical documentation across channels.

Responsibilities

Produces technical documentation including Technical Data Sheets, Application Notes, Product Specification Sheets, Reference Manuals, Training Documentation, How-To Guides, and Technical Web Content for internal and external audiences, including original content.
• Explains technical ideas in writing for various audiences with varying degrees of technical aptitude including administrators, system integrators, developers and non-technical end users.


• Studies product user interfaces, source documents, drawings, specification, mockups and product samples in order to write clear concise procedures.


• Creates technical diagrams, drawings and screenshots to convey technical product features.


• Analyzes existing and potential documents to maintain continuity with brand standards and style guide.


• Manages updates/revisions to all technical literature across all channels (web, print, partner) and all applicable systems. Works in a cross-functional team to gain an in-depth understanding of business product portfolio, product lifecycles and how they apply to customer need.


• Confers with product managers, engineers and vendors to establish technical specification, determine subject material to be developed for publication, and ensure accuracy of product documentation.


• Determines technical documentation priorities based on timelines and resource capacity.


• Anticipates potential project problems and create solutions or contingency plans. Manages all manual and datasheet projects in the Wrike project management system.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, or related work experience.

Experience Requirements:

• 5 or more years of technical writing experience.


• MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite experience required.


• High tech, product manufacturing experience preferred.
