Duties: Provide sustaining design, development, and improvement of Veeco's reactor and critical process modules, including Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) systems. Utilize knowledge of semi-conductor and similar cutting edge industries to design complex process components. Also, leverage knowledge of complex assemblies, cutting edge manufacturing, and design methods. Act as a cross-functional team lead to pull together software, hardware, and controls for projects and acts as a hardware representative. Apply "best practices" and sound mechanical engineering practices to support customer requests and in-field tool improvements. Utilize Solidworks and work within a Product Data Management (PDM) system and leverage practical knowledge Finite Element Analysis (FEA) working with both stress and thermal models. Up to 10% domestic and international travel required.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent foreign education) in mechanical engineering or a related field and two (2) years of experience performing reliability experiments or, in the alternative, master's degree (or equivalent foreign education) in mechanical engineering or a related field and zero (0) years of experience. Special requirements: education or experience must include each of the following skills: performing 3d modeling using solidworks; creating and working with large complex designs, creating and modifying boms (bill of materials) in solidworks, and creating and releasing documentation in support of plc (produce life cycle) process; performing finite element analysis (fea) simulations (using solidworks or ansys) to analyze thermal effects, stresses and deflections occurring during process variations; and designing and executing experiments for performance improvement.
